The Return Case of the South African Jazz-Jive Holiday

I'm a sucker for holiday traditions. Today I give you one of my favorites:  jazz and jive music from South Africa for the Thanksgiving weekend.

This is all music from the Apartheid era, a time when non-whites in that country were not allowed to vote, own property, attend schools with white students, marry across racial lines, etc. It is a reminder for us that we are all fortunate indeed to live in a relatively free and modern society. This is an occasion to be thankful to be citizens of the USA, and of Portland!

As I've said on past Thanksgivings, I never lose my sense of wonder at the resilience and beauty of the human spirit as expressed in this music by persecuted artists from South Africa (many of whom were living in exile in the West when this material was recorded).
