Episode 49: Struggle and Perseverance

<< Tropicology

Listeners today the show is focused on the international protests over the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police. I’m not doing this show because I have anything brilliant to say on the topic, not even because I want to talk about it. But we have passed the point where not saying anything is an option, haven’t we… We’ve passed the point where we can remain silent as a society. We’ve passed the point where we can hope that this situation will somehow take care of itself, that patience and good intentions will yield the desired results. I firmly believe that in order to reach critical mass, so that real change will happen, we must all make our voices heard at this time. Every citizen must find a way to raise their voice, in public forums, among friends, at our dinner tables, as we speak to our children. Trust in police forces is a critical pillar of living in a society. Without that trust, we miss one of the sacred contracts that forms the foundation of a society. This is not just a case of injustice, this is a violation of a sacred trust at the heart of citizenship, a critical erosion of the glue that holds our society together. We’ve passed the point where we can remain silent as a society.
