Episode 97: Club Tropicology Downtempo
This is Memorial Day weekend, and it is another unseasonably beautiful weekend in the Portland metro area. Nature seems to be telling us that everything is good here, and I am following that lead with good vibes music. Two weeks ago I did a show titled Club Tropicology featuring music for nightclub dancing. Today I am back to the nightclub theme, but this time with a downtempo set. Not the deep dubby style in today’s set… this is music to support steady positive energy all night long. For these gigs the DJs break out their lounge crates. Lounge crates are full of music that is strong enough to lead the energy in the room, but this music doesn’t cut through the table talk to take over the event. Lounge crate music never makes that jump from a supporting role to a lead role. The music in this set is from Brazil with a couple tracks from Europe in the Brazilian style. Lots of this music is progressive sounding vintage funk and boogie, but you will also hear at least one contemporary track in each set.
