Episode 105: Club Safari
Today we are returning to the very earliest theme here on Tropicology, the same theme I used for the very first episode back in 2014. This will be another episode of Club Safari, a showcase for Afro-Latin tracks from West and Central Africa. This show is mostly focused on sounds originating from the Congo, including Congolese rumba and soukouss. But that will be supplemented with sounds from Benin, Senegal, Gabon, Burkina Faso, and Guinea Bissau. Hour one features mostly music from the 1960s and 70s, with tracks that take inspiration from American sounds like rock and rumba. Hour two kicks off with slow jams before moving to modern clubby sounds to end the show. And yes, it is the second Sunday in August, so we will be continuing the conversation about race and policing in the United States, in support of racial justice and police change.
