<< The Five Quadrants of Portland

Five Quadrants of Portland presents a facilitated discussion on FergusonPDX with host Jenn Chavez, Denis Theriault of the Portland Mercury and our listeners, providing a place for this important conversation to happen publicly on live, independent radio.

Last Monday a St. Louis grand jury failed to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of young unarmed black man Michael Brown.  Since then, solidarity demonstrations have swept the country - and the city of Portland, which has been host to near-daily rallies, marches, and engagement with city government.  We invited listeners to call in call in to ask Denis and I questions about our reportage, and to voice their views or thoughts on Michael Brown's legacy, the grand jury decision not to indict, and the police accountability movement growing in Portland and nationwide.

FEATURING:

Denis Theriault, news editor of the Portland Mercury and longtime Portland law enforcement and city hall reporter, discussing his experience reporting on local demonstrations (at times from the inside of a police kettle), the actual people (with real local demands) making up the movement, and whether the prevalent media narrative is doing justice to it all.

AND:

Callers Hart, Teressa, Ben, John and Jessie!
