Have an event coming up you’re looking to spread the word about?

Send an email to events@xray.fm to see how we can help!

When emailing please include:

  1. Any relevant info about the event (dates/times, location, ticket links, info sheets etc.)
  2. What you're looking for from us, preferably in the subject or early in the email.* This could be things like being a media sponsor, paid underwriting packages, inviting us to attend, PSAs* AV services, getting an on-air interview, booking an XRAY DJ, having us be present there, etc.
  3. Who this event is for, so that we can place it appropriately on our schedule. If music, let us know the general genre/style. If non-music, what topics will someone that goes to this care about?

Timeline: For those new to working with us, without an established event promotion relationship or agreement, we need to receive your submission at least three weeks prior to your event for inclusion on our events calendar or newsletter, and preferably six weeks if you are interested in a radio spot about your event (i.e. underwriting). We are unlikely to consider last minute requests.

Please Note: We have a very limited capacity and unfortunately cannot accommodate all requests. The clearer your ask and the more obvious of a fit with our programming and/or mission, the more likely we'll prioritize it. We unfortunately cannot respond to every request, but welcome you nudging/following up with us to get it on our radar if it's a good fit and we haven't replied.

*Only nonprofits and/or things benefitting the wider community (such as something like demonstrations, disaster relief, mutual aid campaigns, etc.) are eligible for PSAs typically, with anything else being up to our discretion and typically done on media trade, paid campaigns, or as an act of good will because we feel strongly about something. All scripts need to be approved by us for our FCC compliance standards--even if a recorded file already exists.

World Famous Kenton Club
8:00pm Saturday, May 4, 2024

Jump into Spring by dancing to rhythm & grooves pressed like a flower into vintage vinyl of the 1950s, 1960s, & 1970s:
R&B Soul
Latin Grooves
Caribbean rhythms
Groovy Pop
and other tunes to make you swing towards Spring!
Rarities & Familiar Favorites

Think FLOWER POWER as you bring your spring with you by wearing SPRING-colored and flower-inspired outfits!
This "Spring Shingaling" edition of FLAME will double as the celebration of a decade (+ 1) of DJ Action Slacks-produced dance parties at the Kenton Club! I missed my 10 year KC anniversary last May so I'm celebrating it this year. I threw my first dance party at the Kenton Club in May 2013. Now 70ish events later I feel as if a part of me has become ingrained into those 1940s redwood walls.

Also included during this event - the Dance Hall of Flame inductions of a few music-makers I associate with the sounds of Spring. Their songs are like a melodious "miracle grow", sending our hearts into bloom. Ok, perhaps the language is a little flowery. In all sincerity, this music makes my heart come alive, and I hope it will do the same for you : Mary Wells, Joe Cuba, Tamiko Jones, Huey "Piano" Smith, Yvonne Baker & the Sensations, and The Chambers Brothers!

Arrive with an open mind, open heart, and openness to learning WHILE having fun.

8 pm - 10pm will be mostly 1950s & 1960s music
10pm to Midnight will be mostly 1960s & 1970s music

21+
Sliding scale at the door $10 - $20 You can pay cash or Venmo
Like most of my dance parties, this party is open to all kind-hearted people, but is geared toward the Portland LGBTQmunity & its allies.

Travvy was born in Portland, Oregon the year of 1994. In middle school Travvy's neighbor was a DJ who helped him make a mix CD at just 11 years old. One year later, Travvy's father passed away. This put everything to a stop and Travvy turned to alcohol. Reaching rock bottom he made the choice to move to Wisconsin, where he found a support system that helped him get sober. Throughout his addiction, he claims music saved his life. Artists such as; Atmosphere, Missy Elliott, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Outkast, among others shaped his music and helped him process emotions. At age 15 Travvy was kicked out of his house by his mother's 2 month boyfriend at the time, who is now her husband. He is a Proud Boy against everything Travvy stands for. Travvy is biracial and of the LGBTQ community and has felt unsafe around his mother and her husband. In the song Journal Entry #1 you'll hear him dig deep by sampling his old beat and song, along with his new perspective. He samples his mother's actual husband, and actual voicemails from his mother. Travvy is now 4 years alcohol free and counting. He has found a love for astrology and provides private readings as well. Travvy's music sounds a lot like artists such as; Frank Ocean , Kanye West , Londrelle , Lavva , Lizzy Jeff , 6LACK , WILLOW , J. Cole among so many others! You'll also find sprinkles of affirmations throughout the songs to help better your mind, body, and soul.

Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen has emerged as one of his generation's pivotal figures in music and the related arts. A recognized prodigy, Cohen began Suzuki method piano instruction at age three, and his playing quickly became a mature melding of musicality, technique, and concept. Downbeat observed that his "nimble touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary indicate he's above any convoluted technical showmanship." In the same spirit, Cohen himself has noted that playing jazz is "about communicating the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it's essentially about connections," both among musicians and with audiences. He leads his namesake ensemble, the "Emmet Cohen Trio," is a vibrant solo performer, and is in constant demand as a sideman. Possessing a fluid technique, an innovative tonal palette, and an extensive repertoire, Cohen plays with the command of a seasoned veteran and the passion of an artist fully devoted to his medium.

Emmet Cohen is committed to the intergenerational transfer of artistic knowledge, history, and traditions. His signature professional undertaking is the "Masters Legacy Series," a celebratory set of recordings and interviews honoring legendary jazz musicians. He serves as both producer and pianist for each album in the series. The goal of this landmark, ongoing project is to provide musicians of multiple generations a forum to transfer the unwritten folklore that is America's unique musical idiom.  Cohen has observed that playing jazz "is enriched immeasurably by connecting and studying with jazz masters, forging backward to the very creation of the art form." Volume one of the "Masters Legacy Series" features drummer Jimmy Cobb, and volume two spotlights bassist Ron Carter. Future "Masters Legacy Series" releases will include Cohen's recordings with Benny Golson, Tootie Heath, and George Coleman.

Emmet Cohen's exacting keyboard artistry has garnered numerous accolades from the international jazz community. He placed first in both the American Jazz Pianists competition (2014) and the Phillips Piano Competition at the University of West Florida (2011). He was a finalist in the prestigious American Pianists Association's Cole Porter Fellowship (2015, 2011) and the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition (2011). Cohen has appeared in world-renowned jazz events, including the Newport, Monterey, North Sea, Bern, Edinburgh, Detroit, and Jerusalem jazz festivals, as well as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia. He has also performed at the Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Birdland, Jazz Standard, London's Ronnie Scott's, Jazzhaus Montmartre in Copenhagen, Lincoln Center's Rose Hall, the Cotton Club in Tokyo, and the Kennedy Center, and was received in the Oval Office by President Obama. He is currently Hammond B-3 organist-in-residence at Harlem's SMOKE jazz club.

Besides leading the "Emmet Cohen Trio," Cohen has appeared regularly with Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Jimmy Cobb, George Coleman, Jimmy Heath, Tootie Heath, Houston Person, Kurt Elling, Billy Hart, and Brian Lynch, among others. Cohen is also a member of Christian McBride's trio "Tip City," the "Herlin Riley Quartet," and the "Ali Jackson Trio," and serves as pianist and music director for jazz vocalist and television personality Lea DeLaria. His recordings include "Masters Legacy Series featuring Ron Carter" (2018); "Masters Legacy Series featuring Jimmy Cobb" (2017); "New Directions" (2016) with Herlin Riley; "Questioned Answer" (2014), co-produced with Brian Lynch; "Infinity" (2013), featuring his Italian Trio; and his acclaimed debut CD "In the Element" (2011), with bassist Joe Sanders and drummer Rodney Green.
