Night School #194: Lester Cooke & Calvin Walker (The Gangsters)

I’m back doing the do on Night School tonight. My guest is Calvin Walker. I love this man like a brother. Calvin has been a mentor, inspiring my work discovering & better understanding Albina’s complex musical history. Like many of the great musicians in the area, his experience bridges the gap between two unique eras in Albina: mid-century jazz & 1960s-80s funk. He’s played in so many bands it’s impossible to keep track. A couple times a year Calvin pops in & we go through old tapes I’ve tracked down - music he made but hasn’t heard in decades. Tonight we’re at it again and w/ special guest Lester Cooke of The Gangsters!
