Practicing Medicine as a Calling, a Black Woman and a Believer

In this episode, we talk to Dr. Gina Guillame. Born to Haitian parents and raised in the Bahamas, Dr. Gina Guillaume’s journey to medicine is one of perseverance, faith, and a deep commitment to serving others. As a first-generation college graduate, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Barry University in Miami, Florida, and later completed her Master of Health Science at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She then pursued her medical degree at the prestigious Howard University College of Medicine, a place that solidified her passion for addressing health disparities and uplifting marginalized communities. Dr. Guillaume completed her Family Medicine Residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she served as the program’s first Community Medicine Fellow. During this time, she dedicated herself to addressing the social and structural determinants of health, leveraging her faith in Jesus Christ and her love for people to empower underserved youth and the communities that raised them.

This is Part 1 of the interview. Part 2 should be available to listen to on the Women's Mosaic show page once it airs in May 2025.
