DANDY WARHOLS - XRAY Archive Project

3:27pm, 3-29-2016

This is the XRAY Archive Project -- A partnership between Voodoo Doughnut Recordings and XRAY.FM. The XAP is an ongoing series and audio museum of Portland music history. Telling the stories and sharing the music that has shaped our creative community through a series conversations with the bands who were there. We share live recordings (mostly never heard before) from 1990's performances at Portland venues like the X-ray Cafe and Satyricon.

The Dandy Warhols recorded live at the X-Ray Cafe

Interview:  March 28, 2016. For this edition of the XRAY Archive Project, XRAY.fm DJ James Dineen interviews Courtney Taylor-Taylor and Zia McCabe of the Dandy Warhols at XRAY Studios in the Falcon Arts Community. Below are links to audio of the full interview with live tracks from the Dandy Warhols' 8th show, which are part of their forthcoming album Live at the X-Ray Cafe (to be released in April along with their album of new songs, Distortland.)

Show date: July 8, 1994

Addt'l show info: "What did The Dandy Warhols sound like before they became world-famous practitioners of neo-psychedelia and synthpop? What did they sound like during their eighth concert ever? Now we know. Comfortable shifting between shoegaze and garage rock, confident in their stage banter and poised for world domination! Live at the X-Ray Cafe is the third release in Voodoo’s “Tales from the Grease Trap” archival series. The recording, from July 8, 1994, was originally captured at Portland’s legendary all-ages venue the X-Ray Cafe. New York engineer Don Fury transferred the untouched multichannel analog cassette into his console, mixed it then mastered it along with input from Courtney Taylor-Taylor." - Voodoo Donut Recordings

Personnel: Courtney Taylor (guitar/vocals); Peter Holmstrom (guitar); Zia McCabe (keys); Eric Hedford (drums); Young Tom Pancake (intro)
