<< The Five Quadrants of Portland

FEATURING:

Lux Preciado-Solis, a student of Lincoln High School and a member of the Portland Student Action Network, about PSAN's newly launched campaign to remove armed law enforcement from Portland public schools.  PSAN recently conducted a survey amongst PPS students about their perception of school resource officers (or SROs) and found that the majority of respondents felt less safe and less likely to succeed academically with armed law enforcement on campuses.  They're now calling for the disarming and eventual removal of SROs, and a shift towards disciplinary policies that emphasize restorative justice.

AND:

Documentary filmmakers Lindsey Grayzel and Deia Schlosberg, discussing the upcoming film The Reluctant Radical.  The documentary follows Oregon climate activist Ken Ward, who was one of several activists who shut down tar sands pipelines across the country in #ShutItDown actions on October 11th, 2016.  Ward was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, potentially carrying decades in prison.  Lindsey and Deia were similarly arrested and charged for filming direct actions that day in WA and ND, in what many viewed as an infringement of freedom of the press (their charges have since been dropped, while Ken Ward awaits a second trial following a mistrial).  They'll host "Filming the Fossil Fuel Resistance" on 4/27 at the Hollywood Theater, where they'll show scenes from the film (still in production) and host a panel to discuss climate activism and journalists' first amendment rights.
