The Second 2017 Case of the Desert Crossing
I am back this week after a vacation... many thanks to the honorable Ryan Stively for kicking in your earholes with love last week.
I'm kicking in this week with a return to some of the deeper, danker sounds from Africa. As I often do, I will be mixing 2 of the countries most coveted by collectors and connoisseurs: talking about Mali and Ethiopia (along with some neighbors of each: Eritrea, Guinea, and Burkina Faso).
A heaping helping today of items I picked up at this year's International Record Store Day festivities, including Inna Baba Coulibaly (accompanied by Ali Farka Toure!), Mamadou Kelly, and a wicked box set of Ethiopian singles from Heavenly Sweetness. Add to that the Eritrean reissue on the always-compelling Domino Sound label out of New Orleans... along with a few tasty originals from my own collection... and we get a mighty tasty show today, indeed.
