The First Case of the Psychedelic African Symphony
Music lovers, this is one of those weeks when there is a nice list of recently issued (or reissued) LPs to share and discuss. The theme is psychedelic Africa; a big focus on Nigeria this week, but also sounds from Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Sierra Leone.
Two of the LPs featured prominently today are compilations originally issued by Soundway some years ago, and currently back in circulation: "Dancing Time" by The Funkees, and "Sierra Leone in 1970s USA" by Muyei Power. I additionally feature some dubby sounds from the reissued "Black Voices" by Tony Allen on the Comet label, "Banko Woman" by Apostles on PMG, and a 12" EP on the Hot Casa record label from Deke Tom Dollard. Also dusting off a fine 2-track reissue from years back by Dan Boadi and the African Internationals.
