The SIxth Case of the African Funk Fiesta
We return today to the theme of African funk, with plenty of Afrobeat crossover. Like many of my African funk shows, this is inspired by a cluster of recent compilations and reissues on vinyl:
First, there is another terrific volume on the Analog Africa label: African Scream Contest 2, a sequel to the 2008 double LP that kicked off a long string of successful releases for the Analog Africa label.
Also a pair of LP reissues from Nigeria with long, afrobeat and juju infused funk tracks: The Black Isaiah of Africa by King Bucknor Jr (Hot Casa Records), and African Dances by Shina Williams (Mr Bongo Records).
This will be another trance-inducing edition of the Adventures. Although we do start our swim from the beach, we quickly get out to the deep water. Somehow we make our way to the disco. Enjoy the psychedelic sounds of Africa on today's episode.
