In Space Is The Place, Sun Ra said, “The earth cannot move without music. The earth moves in a certain rhythm, a certain sound, a certain note. When the music stops the earth will stop and everything upon it will die.”
I'm not playing any Sun Ra on this week's show, but like earth needing music to keep spinning, Sun Ra's music is all around us, pushing us forward through time. This idea of Earth stopping with out music reminds me of Joe Strummer's lyric in the song X-Ray style, "can anybody feel the distance to the Nile? I wanna feel and I wanna dance a while."
