Don't do Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes... or my annual South African jazz-jive mixtape.
It is an annual tradition on this show to play music from Apartheid-era South Africa on Thanksgiving. This is a reminder for me that we really do have so much to be thankful for in this time and place (even considering the dismaying situation in our nation's capital).
More than anything, I am awed by the capacity of these artists to create these expressions of joy and spirituality in the midst of such an oppressive political state. Perhaps this is a necessity for the human soul.
Today I mix it up again in humble tribute to the human spirit. Happy Thanksgiving.
