The New Case of the African Mellow Madness
Wintertime is good time for mellow madness. As I write this, the Sunday forecast is calling for cold, cold rain. Today I present some African music as cozy as a pile of blankets. Warm yourself by this fire.
We start the set today with some folky highlife music from Nigeria. It's easy listening, if you like, but never dull; follow the interaction between rhythm section and guitar. We recline in the middle of the first hour with some folk forms before we slide all the way back into some unexpected art-folk... then back to the surface with one more splash of highlife.
The second hour today starts again in Nigeria, this time with some psychedelic popular music of the 70s. We move things closer to the dancefloor as we go through the second hour, winding up with some modern Fela Kuti tribute material.
Music today for moderate intra-hibernation pulse raising therapy.
