Hello Cruel World

347 Matt Keating

<< Hello Cruel World

Matt Keating was born and raised in Boston, MA but he's spent most of his life in New York City. He's released 10 records since 1993. My introduction to Matt came through his 2003 album Tilt-A-Whirl, released on Poptones (famously, the label that Alan McGee started up after the demise of his Creation Records label). Tilt-A-Whirl is still my favorite, but there's something really enjoyable in Matt's newer songs -- a warm Willie Nelson-esque delivery to his vocals.

Interesting fact: although Matt and I have done radio together 5 times since 2003, only two of those appearances have been on Hello Cruel World! The middle 3 appearances all took place in the middle of the night on another station while Hello Cruel World was on hiatus (2006-2010).

In this episode we talk about Matt's recent tour to Europe and Japan playing keyboards in Garland Jeffreys' band. Matt also previews a few tracks from a new record he's working on, tentative title is: Homebody

Matt Keating in-studio:

  • When They've Thrown You Away
  • Nothing To Figure Out
  • Beautiful
