Episode 72: Thanksgiving Jazz and Jive

This is the annual Tropicology Thanksgiving episode, and of course I will be doing the same theme I have done every Thanksgiving Sunday since 2014: this will be jazz and jive music from the Apartheid era in South Africa. I play this music every Thanksgiving to remind us all of the human capacity to give expression to higher feelings, such as joy and awe, even in the midst of the worst repression. It is the unique human ability to find hope in our darkest hours that empowers repressed peoples to rise up, again and again, fighting for a righteous cause until the war is won, although many battles may be lost during the campaign. That is an especially great message for our country in 2020, we could all use a little encouragement to keep up our own fights during these challenging times, especially the fight for police change.
