Episode 110: Fall Kickoff

Today’s episode will be the Tropicology fall kickoff… the annual show to usher in the fall season, and also the opportunity to say goodbye to some portion of my listening audience that will be tuning in to NFL games instead of Tropicology for the next 4 months. This is the time of year when we turn away from summer pleasures like drinking cocktails in a lake while floating on inflatable unicorns and pizza slices… similarly, this is the time of year for saying a temporary goodbye to the carefree sounds of summer, the music I’ve been playing on this show for the past couple months. Fall is the time for a deeper playlist, a time for pulling out some moodier music. Today I am obliging with a mixed set featuring sounds from all corners of the Tropicology universe: Africa, Brazil, and Latin America. The set opens with some powerpop mid-60s sounds; Then we dip into some weird music today… the first set is more of a folky weird today, with music from Brazil and Africa; after the break I’m back with a more tropical Caribbean flavor of weird with some real diversity. Finally I’ll put a little modern bounce into the weird with some dance oriented tracks at the end. And because this is the second Sunday in September I’ll also be continuing the conversation about race and police in our community and in our country.
