Episode 125: Tropical Top 100 Part 4
I am in the middle of a series that I am playing through the end of this year and into early next year. I am giving you my Tropicology list of the one hundred greatest songs from Africa, Brazil, and Latin America. Today we are going to be hearing the fourth episode counting down my top songs. The past 3 episodes have counted us down to number 29. This week I am moving from number 28 to number 16, and the final show of the series will reveal my top 15 tropical songs of all time. You can find an official master list of the top 100 songs on Instagram, just look for Encyclopedia Sound, or search for the topic Tropicology. Or, of course, you can find song credits for each track on the xray website archives at xray.fm. I’m not trying to arrange songs by rank until the final week… up until that time, the methodology is to group songs by sound, making a nice playlist each week. So far my shows have covered country sounds, jazz and rock sounds, and dance floor sounds… my theme today is deep music. Today you will hear desert blues and music from Mali in my top 100 song list. You’ll also hear some afrobeat along with some moody slowjams. This will be an all Africa Top 100 episode… I’ve been heavy on Latin America and Brazil in my last 3 episodes, so I am balancing the scales with a week completely dedicated to Africa. Top tropical songs is my holiday gift this year… this will be episode 4 of the Tropical Top One Hundred.
