Episode 130: Salsa Sabrosa

 Today I am doing a show theme I’ve never covered before on Tropicology… I’ve played tracks in this genre from time to time, but never a full show dedicated to this music. The music in question is salsa… for any of you listeners who enjoy the salsa club scene in the Portland area, this is your radio dream come true. Today Tropicology will be playing all salsa music for two hours, all the finest salsa cuts from my collection. Now, you may be saying to yourself, hold up there gringo… DJing salsa is not like your typical DJ work for dancers who are shaking their things to some funk or some house music. Salsa DJ sets have to work for salsa dancers… every song has to work for salsa dancing. Salsa dancing is pair dancing, it requires a very specific tempo and format to work. You can’t just drop in a mambo or a guaguanco like you can on your radio show… you’ve got to keep dancers in the right tempo, and it’s got to have the right sound.
