Take It To The Bridge!

Have an Ice Day

4:00pm, 11-13-2014
<< Take It To The Bridge!

Happy #snovember! We landed a spaceship on an icy comet and some icy weather landed on us.

This week we've got new jams from Mark Mcguire, Parkay Quarts, Nature Thief, Sama Dams, Hookworms, Yacht, and Land Lines. Plus, a bevy of voicemails from friends from near (including Coma Serfs, Modern Kin, Big Haunt) and from afar (The Bots and Golden Drugs). There will be pop, funk, hip hop, rock, country, and of course some psych with a healthy assortment of local sounds, classic hits, and rare gems.

We kick the whole thing off with "Terminal Beach" from YACHT's brand new ep "Where Does This Disco" which you can download for free over at Stereogum!

Oakland's Golden Drugs dropped a rad new video this week for "Ghost Song". It's on Vimeo and for some reason I can't post it here, but the video's director (and band's leader) Drew Pearson, left a voicemail commentary about the song that'll land in the second hour of the show. You can check out the video and an interview with Pearson over at at Noisey.

VIDEO ROUNDUP

Flying Lotus are touring with collaborator/bass virtuoso Thundercat in tow, in support of the rad new album "You're Dead". Catch them Monday, November 17 at the Roseland Theater. [tickets]

Rock and roll hobbyists, Hookworms dropped "The Hum" this week. Here's a live version of "On Leaving" from the album.

Former Portlander Mark Mcguire released "Noctilucence" this week. Noctilucence is the phenomenon of clouds glowing at night, which is pretty beautiful. Here's an extended version of the title track which explores the ambiance of nocturnal lights.

Portland rock veterans, Eyelids, dropped a gem of a new record "854" last month and they'll be supporting legendary LA band The Rain Parade this Friday and Saturday at Mississippi Studios. [tickets]

If you don't know Sturgill Simpson, I invite you to start getting to know him so you can be as hyped as I am for his upcoming show on Tuesday, November 25 at Mississippi Studios. [tickets]

And, a head's up Jeremiah Hayden from Modern Kin is joining me on the radio next Thursday to share some music, before headlining a hometown show at Mississippi Studios with The Ghost Ease. Here's a track from their recent Banana Stand performance. [tickets]

That's it for this week. Thanks for supporting XRAY (if you haven't yet, you can become a member and support the station via the Willamette Week Give!Guide ... it's safe, tax-deductible, and it'll help us continue to grow and be the station that you've been waiting for all these years) and for spreading the good news about a station that is original and distinctive as you.

Cheers,
Theo
