Episode 138: Deep African Funk Hits
Today is another greatest hits episode of Tropicology… today I am playing some of my favorite deep funk sounds from Western Africa. That spans from psychedelic and jerk tinged sounds of the 60s up through the afrobeat revolution of the 70s and into some early electronic funk from the 80s. Music today from a range of West African countries, but special focus on the 3 big heavyweights of African funk: Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin. The first hour today kicks off with some of those fuzzy 60s jerk sounds, a bit of African garage rock… then we’ll move into a bit deeper 70s psychedelic territory to wrap up that set. I’ll bounce back to some RnB influenced sounds at the top of hour two, then we’ll hear some full funk anthems to wrap up the show. Some of my favorite African funk coming your way on today’s Tropicology.
