Episode 078: Baba Erkin Koray Rest in Power Episode

Dedication episode, only talking on first track for station id. Range of music goes from '69 -'91 Erkin, covering late 60s bands like the Erkin Koray "Quartet";  late 60s Erkin Koray "Underground Band", Erkin with Ter (trio, translates to "Sweat", with members of Bunalim; then mid 70s super group, Erkin Koray "Super Group". He had an amazing life, 1st to open up a rock club in Instanbul, 1st to bring rock to a stage in '62 at a high school dance that Baris Manco (two years behind him) attended. Late 50s was a lot of Jerry Lee Lewis covers etc. He electrififed the Saz in 1974 and connected deeper to Arabesque music during his military duty in the mid-60s in Western Anatolia. The 80s new wave rejected his sound in many ways and he struggled a bit with some saying he was making extra money by playing piano at a pizza joint in the late 80s, but came back hard, playing most all the instruments on his new stuff in the early 90s-- revamping some old tunes with more distortion. He was in and out of Portland in the last decade a few times but sadly past in Toronto area on Monday, Aug 7. Rest in Power-- thank you-- Commodore Theo
