The Case of the Anniversary Night at Club Safari
Happy Birthday to XRAY FM! We are now in our second year of bringing you this great independent community radio voice.
To celebrate today, I am presenting an encore performance of my first ever set for XRAY FM. These were the songs I played on that first snowy Sunday, when I put chains on the old Explorer and slowly ground my way over to our lavishly appointed sound studio.
For me, this set is a tour of African music highlights... some of my favorite moments from African pop of the 60s and funk of the 70s. We will hear music today from The Congo, Ivory Coast, Benin, Mali, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, and Angola. We will start with one of my all-time favorite songs by guitar wizard and show favorite Franco and his OK Jazz, then we will hear show stoppers from other faves including Orchestre Baobab, Fela Kuti, and Rail Band of Mali.
