The Loss of Sequel Innocence

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice wants to pass itself off as a regular sequel, like we used to get back in the eighties, the kind that seems quaint compared to the mutant IP-extending products of today's Hollywood. But it's too afraid of letting down the original movie's fans, and this fear neutralizes it. In that way, it's as much a product of today's Hollywood as any reboot.
