<< Respected LadyLand / Travlin' the Tracks with DJ Action Slacks
I first became aware of Margaret Lewis and Mira Smith through my fascination with the late 1960s funky-country-soul recordings of Shelby Singleton's Nashville-based labels Silver Fox, SSS International, and Plantation. At some point I noticed these two women had written a large chunk of the tunes I loved by three different musical acts from those labels: Jeannie C Riley, Peggy Scott & JoJo Benson, and Linda Martell.  Their names stood out because it's rare to see the names of women songwriters come up again and again on records of the 1950s-1970s.

So, when I decided to launch Respected LadyLand, I knew Margaret Lewis and Mira Smith would be some of the first behind-the-scenes contributors I would be spotlighting.  What I didn't realize was just how extensive their contribution had been. I can't wait to share this episode about these true pioneers of the record industry!
