Where is Respected LadyLand?  It's a mythical destination where women are actually RESPECTED & valued, rather than resented, tormented, vilified, or shoved aside.  

I've labeled this radio show a PROJECT because it involves research, compiling history, and providing a resource for exploration. 

Traditionally music history has mostly focused on the efforts of men. On this radio show, women take center stage. Each episode explores a different theme, sometimes focusing on the recorded work of a single artist, other times tracing a subject, trend, or story across multiple recordings.

The series highlights the achievements of women in mid-century music in the U.S. and beyond, bringing attention not only to performers but also to the often-overlooked women who worked behind the scenes. Focusing on the golden age of record business (the 1950s through the 1970s) it examines a period when women were routinely excluded from positions of power and meaningful representation within the industry.

This show celebrates the women who broke through those barriers, while also acknowledging those whose contributions went uncredited or whose talents were never documented at all because they were never given the opportunity.

It is also dedicated to the women who dreamed of making music but were discouraged because it wasn't considered appropriate, practical, or possible. Their careers were derailed because they weren't taken seriously, faced hostility within the industry, or were viewed as a threat to the status quo. Their stories deserve to be remembered alongside those whose names made it into the credits.

I'm a music enthusiast who has championed women musicians for decades. This project builds on more than 30 years as a DJ working across different parts of the music industry. I hope to expand my own understanding of the women who shaped its history, both locally and globally. I don't know where this exploration will lead, but as always, I'll let the music guide the way. I hope you'll join me on the journey.
