Welcome back to The Commons, your Monday morning radio guide to news, culture, and local action.

Start your week informed with stories that matter to you and your neighbors—spotlighting people and events shaping Portland’s future environmentally, socially, and economically. With a focus on direct action, union organizing, and the thriving local arts scene, we’re here to help you play the cards in your hand and make a difference. Whether you’re tuning in for the news, the music, or the opportunity to act, The Commons is where Portland gathers.

This week at 8 a.m. we spoke with Scott Kerman from Blanchet House, a local organization that recently celebrated their 72rd anniversary of serving portlanders. They provide three free meals a day Monday through Saturday and have a couple of transitional housing programs and are working on a shelter for people who identify as women.

At 8:40 a.m. we spoke with Cam Smith, a local sound artist, originally from Chicago, Illinois. You can check out more about them and their work here. Listen to their new album, The Heart Gateway. Follow them on instagram @dinnerwitjesus
