Respected LadyLand - Malvina Reynolds: Musical Activist

After an eventful and often dangerous 4 decades as an activist, Malvina Reynolds discovered the ultimate platform for her message, music. In her mid-40s she found her calling, to be the composer of some of the most clever, biting social commentary songs of the folk music movement of the 1940s-1960s.
She often spoke of the discrimination she experienced as an older woman in the music industry. Older women are traditionally assumed to be conservative and timid. But Malvina never lived a conventional life, especially during the era in which she lived. She didn’t allow herself to be confined by the pressure of conformity.
When her record label Columbia dragged their feet on producing records for her, she launched her own record label in the early 70s to empower her to release her controversial message songs.
