Welcome back to The Commons, your Monday morning radio guide to news, culture, and local action. Start your week informed with stories that matter to you and your neighbors—spotlighting people and events shaping Portland’s future environmentally, socially, and economically. With a focus on direct action, union organizing, and the thriving local arts scene, we’re here to help you play the cards in your hand and make a difference. Whether you’re tuning in for the news, the music, or the opportunity to act, The Commons is where Portland gathers.

10th Poet Laureate of Oregon, Anis Mojgani, and award-winning writer and comic, Derrick C. Brown, are doing a sweet blend of poetry, stories, comedy and music Thursday, May 8th at The Siren Theater. The poets will be warmed up by the prog sounds of AAN. The event will be hosted by Frayn Masters. Doors open at 7:30pm.

Ellen Mendoza, a volunteer from 350 PDX, joins to talk about PGE’s proposed plan to cut into 4.7 acres of forest park. In March, a city hearings officer made a decision to permit PGE to cut into the park. And in early April, due to local advocates getting loud, city council had a whole session dedicated to this issue. After four hours of testimony city council unanimously decided to overturn this city hearings officers decision and to disallow PGE to extend it’s project into the protected forest park. Now, there is going to be another decision that will be made on May 7th.

Tune in every Monday from 7:30 to 9:06a.m.
