Get on your dancing zapatos... it's time to take our first dip in the sunny surf that is our Latin America theme.
The first hour of today's adventure covers what I like to call "old-timey Latin": music of the 50's and early 60's, from Cuba and Brazil. We will hear small combo music from Cuba, along with a few big band numbers from the godfather of Cuban music, the great Beny More. You will also hear some very early Brazilian forro sprinkled throughout.
The second hour today will offer this show's first serious taste of cumbia music from Colombia, one of Encyclopedia Sound's favorite Latin genres. The second hour rounds out with some "Nuyorican Soul," great hybrid Latin sounds from the New York scene in the 60's and 70's.
