Back to a familiar theme this week... another slice of Afro-Latin, featuring music this week from Ivory Coast, Guinea, Angola, and Senegal... with just a small taste from pop music powerhouses Nigeria and The Congo.
There is a particular focus today on sultry sounds, particularly from Angola.
We will start with a dip into my collection of 45s, hearing 60s sounds from the early West African pop scene.
We'll next have a tour of Angola, hearing some uptempo pop and merengues from the early 70s.
The second hour today is devoted to more modern sounds of the late 70s and 80s. Longer tracks here, and stretched out solos... psychedelic guitar over languorous latin rhythms. We'll kick it off at the end with some spicy dancefloor Afro salsa.
