Flame 🔥: Uninhibited 1956! Vintage Vinyl Dance Party
- 8:00pm Saturday, November 7, 2026
Flame Vintage Vinyl Dance Party continues its Danciversary Series by celebrating the 70th anniversary of another explosive year in dance-oriented 45 rpm records!
But there was a lot of other exciting music filling the dance floors that year:
- Afro-Cuban dance records were still riding the mambo & cha cha craze with stars like Tito Puente and Perez Prado leading the way
- Johnny Cash scored his first massive hit with his distinctive, gritty rhythm-centric country music, while Patsy Cline was bounding into the scene with her early country bop style
- the Electric Blues recorded in Chicago, Memphis, and Louisiana was in the midst of it's golden era
- The polyrhythmic R&B of New Orleans was in peak form
- Sister Rosetta Tharpe was laying down energetic gospel tracks featuring her influential rockin' guitar style
- The Gospel-inspired R&B introduced by Ray Charles was evolving into its own genre which would be called Soul Music
- Vocal stars of the big band era like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dinah Washington & others were still shining on records featuring an elegant jazzy style of pop music
ALSO hot in 1956 - The Rock 'n' Roll scandal magazines! It would truly be a SCANDAL if you don't come to the Kenton Club and help me celebrate the DANCIVERSARY of the year that changed American music forever!
