  • 9:00pm Friday, December 18, 2015

Modern Kin, The Crenshaw, and Dragging an Ox through Water will be featured in a benefit show for the Creative Music Guild Friday, December, 18th at Bunk Bar Water.

With help from the Willamette Week's 2015 Give!Guide, the Creative Music Guild is raising money to fund programming for their 25th year of bringing new, improvised, and experimental music and performance to Portland. Ticket sales will benefit the Creative Music Guild's mission. We are grateful to these amazing band for donating their time to support our mission! Come support local music and home-grown non-profits!

Modern Kin

Modern Kin’s sweeping 12-song debut begins with singer Drew Grow’s ardent wail, and expands into heady and tilted harmonies that scrape around rowdy guitars. At its core this is a live band. And as most great live bands attempt, Modern Kin has successfully turned their recorded work into a mirror of the hot lights, quavering strings and communal experience.

The band was included in Portland’s annual Willamette Week “Best New Band” issue and has garnered attention from NPR, KEXP, and MTV as well as countless weekly newspapers and daily blogs.

Their 2013 album was also the debut of Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Quasi, Wild Flag) as a producer, and was engineered by Bryce Gonzales (Kurt Vile, The Breeders, Devandra Banhart.) Two tracks, Abandon and Big Enough to Cook, were mixed by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Tame Impala)
