Frequently Asked Questions

What is Planned Giving? 
In short, planned giving refers to including an organization in your will and/or estate planning. There are a number of ways to go about this, so please let us know if you would like more information or to have a conversation with our donor relations team to plan the best course of action for you. 

Why Planned Giving? 
Planned Giving can come in many forms, but most of all it is a wish to see XRAY continue to impact Portland and amplify vital voices long past our lifetimes. When considering whether to include XRAY in your planned giving, you are considering a way of impacting our community, supporting local artists, supporting voices that commercial radio has shut out, and more. Your legacy is an important one and we are honored to be among the nonprofits you may consider among your beneficiaries.

Is Planned Giving only for large gifts? 
All income levels can have the resources to make a charitable bequest, and gifts both large and small are important to XRAY. We are a people-powered station, and your legacy is powerful no matter your wealth. 

How do I leave a bequest? 
Bequests work by leaving a portion of your estate to a specified nonprofit through a will, whether that be via a percentage, a specified amount, or a remainder. Estates include the sum of all assets including property, insurance, retirement accounts, cash-on-hand, and all other non-cash assets. 

What would my gift go towards? 
Unless you request otherwise, funds go to unrestricted funds used for XRAY's general operations. If you'd like funds to go towards something specific, let's talk! The ability to fund specific programs or expenses is evaluated on a case by case basis, as most programs and expenses are interdependent on each other due to the unique nature of a 24/7 media operation.

What types of deferred giving are accepted? 
Great question! We accept bequests, charitable gift annuities administered by outside entities, pooled income funds administered by outside entities, Charitable Lead Trusts, retirement assets, and remainder interests in property. Don't see your gift type here? Contact us with the Declaration of Intent below and we'll discuss the details. Certain types of assets may require consultation with the XRAY Board Development Committee. 

The Board of Directors, upon advice of the Development Committee, reserves the right to decline any gift that does not further the mission or goals of XRAY.FM and which XRAY.FM determines will be harmful to its operations and reputation.  Also, any gifts that create an administrative burden or cause XRAY.FM to incur excessive expenses may be declined.

  • Bequests
    Donors and supporters of XRAY.FM shall be encouraged to make bequests to XRAY.FM under their wills and trusts.  Such bequests shall not be recorded as gifts to XRAY.FM until such time as the gift is irrevocable.  Where the gift is irrevocable, but is not due until a future date, the present value of that gift may be recorded at the time the gift becomes irrevocable.

  • Charitable Gift Annuities

    XRAY.FM does not currently offer Charitable Gift Annuities.  Individuals wishing to include XRAY.FM as a charitable beneficiary of a Charitable Gift Annuity may do so through an agreement set up at a local community foundation, umbrella organization, or similarly structured organization that offers Charitable Gift Annuities and facilitates charitable beneficiary payments to organizations and programs outside of its own operating structure.
