Greasy Kid Stuff
Hosted by:
Greasy Kid Stuff, the long running show for alternakids, and their grown ups, was born in 1995 on freeform pioneer WFMU, spent their awkward/awesome teen years on alternative 94.7 FM, and is now mellowing out – but not growing up – on Portland’s newest radio station, KXRY/XRAY.FM.
When it debuted, hosts Belinda and Hova directed WFMU’s anything-goes aesthetic toward an imagined audience of 5- to 10-year-olds, and the show soon struck a chord with punk-generation moms and dads casting about for alternatives to Raffi and Barney. While the kids’ music world has since blown up both commercially and artistically, Greasy Kid Stuff has remained somewhat at a distance from the movement it helped to inspire. Part of the reason is Belinda and Hova’s steadfast refusal to draw a distinction between “kid” and “adult” music. Their programming has always featured carefully curated music not originally intended for children.
Based in Portland since 2004, and featuring the growing presence and prescience of daughter DJ Georgia, Greasy Kid Stuff was invited to join listener supported XRAY.FM and they are excited to go back to their freeform roots. Tune and see what you think, SATURDAYS at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, broadcast, streaming and archived!
