Debuting Oct. 5th - RESPECTED LADYLAND, The Radio Show (a spin-off of Travlin' the Tracks)

Respected LadyLand celebrates the auditory achievements of mid century women from around
the globe,
and shares the lesser known stories of women who contributed their
talents as performers AND behind the scenes.  The show focuses on the
golden age of record production  - 1950s-1970s. This was an era when
women were largely deprived of power and meaningful representation
in "the industry."

As much as this show is about those women who were able to make it through the gauntlet to make an in-roads in recorded music,  Respected LadyLand, is also about all the women you will NEVER learn about because their
contributions were never credited. Additionally, this show aims to be a recognition of all
the talented women musicians who were never recorded because they
weren't even considered… period.  It's also dedicated to all the
women who
wanted to be music-makers but were discouraged from doing so because it
wasn't something “ladies” should do, it wasn't practical enough, or they
simply didn't have the support.  This series acknowledges all the women
whose careers were
quashed/stunted/arrested because they weren't taken seriously, resented
for existing in the industry, or considered a threat to the
people/person in power.

DJ Action Slacks acknowledges
she isn't a music history authority, but she's a music enthusiast who has researched American mid century records for decades.  With this series she aims
to build on her knowledge by diving even
deeper into exploring the contributions made by women locally and
globally.   She doesn't know where this
exploration will take her, but as always, she intends to let the music
lead her, and she will follow.  She hopes you'll join her on this
journey!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Travlin’ the Tracks with DJ Action Slacks offers a musical
escape by using vintage music to transport the listener to another
place, another time, or sometimes another dimension. One week we may
travel to a specific city, the following week we could be dancing in
outer space.  You never know where we'll end up when we let the music
take us away.

This is primarily a soul/R&B/blues
centered program, but I do like to explore adjacent genres like ska,
rocksteady, mambo, rhumba, cha-cha, golden age gospel, western, rock n
roll, and jazz.

I believe vintage music remains highly relevant in modern times for these reasons:

Vintage
vinyl are records (pun intended) of what humanity has been in the past,
warts and all, no filters. It shows us the possibilities of what
humanity can be at our best and worst. It's insight into how we got to
where we are today. But music of the past also gives us tools to cope
with societal strife and struggles.

Music is
the beating heart of the soul of humanity. At a time when conflict seems
to be on the rise, my hope for resolution springs from recognizing that
we can at least still connect on a fundamental level through music.
