A gritty 21st century blues-rock group originally out of San Diego, California, Little Hurricane emerged in 2011 with Homewrecker, a fiery debut that yielded a handful of heavily licensed tracks that helped the band earn widespread exposure. They built on their foundation with subsequent albums like Gold Fever (2014), Same Sun Same Moon (2017) and Love Luck (2019) along with a heavy touring schedule on both sides of the Atlantic.
Little Hurricane formed in 2010 when Anthony "Tone" Catalano decided to start a band after years of working in studios as a recording engineer for Gwen Stefani, Neil Young and many others. Tone had been writing songs his entire life but finally decided to share his music with the world. He eventually turned to Craigslist to find a drummer and after trying out many drummers he found Celeste Spina who had never been in a band before. Tone's ragged, passionate songs with Celeste's dynamic drumming created a raw sound that launched Little Hurricane. After years of touring as a duo, the band took a hiatus around the time of Covid. Now in 2025, Tone is returning to the stage with a new backing band. This revamped version of Little Hurricane will not just expand upon the classic dirty blues sound but carry the music into the next chapter with drummer Ryan Kroney and singer/multi-instrumentalist Hattie Craven.

A shoegaze, dream pop, psych and post-punk music festival
Pitchfork declared that 2023 was the year that the shoegaze revival hit its stride. Well, in the Pacific NW, shoegaze never really went away, with past trailblazing events in Portland like Shoegazerâs Ball / Fuzzy Ball, and now Seattleâs recent Seagaze and Tremolo festivals leading the way. Currently in Portland, however, thereâs a shoegaze-shaped hole in our festival calendar. Our all-volunteer membership committeeâmade up of members of Kallai, Ten Million Lights, and presenting sponsor DKFM Shoegaze Radioâhave joined together to remedy that.

Patrick Wolf today announces the release of his long-awaited seventh album Crying The Neck due out 25th April via APPORT / Virgin Music and available to pre-order here. The album features guest appearances from Zola Jesus, Serafina Steer, drummer Seb Rochford and Wolf's sister Jo Apps. Alongside news of an extensive UK, European and US tour, the dates of which are listed below, Wolf has shared first single "Dies Irae", an anthemic "affirmation of life" set in the days before the passing of his mother.
"Dies Irae" comes from the Latin Requiem Mass and translates to "the day of wrath" or, as Wolf puts it, "the day of separation from the living". He wanted to write a response to that idea, seeing it instead as a "an affirmation of life in the last days of knowing you are about to lose someone you love, and a courageous - almost rebellious - choice against the misery to use the time remaining to deepen your love or joy with each other." He wrote it "to give myself another day I didn't have with my mother during her rapid descent in illness" and hopes that this might also help others who have been through the same process. The string arrangement at the end of the song is based on the Medieval Gregorian chant 'Dies Irae' from the Latin mass. The song, Wolf says, completed the narrative arc of the album, connecting the opening tracks with the "death suite" of pieces in tribute to his mother. "I finished the lyrics as an imaginary last conversation with my mother in her art studio and out to the garden as the evening falls," he says. "My sister Jo Apps came in the last days of mixing to sing the backing vocals, and in a way, it meant that we could both share a last dance in the kitchen with our ma together."o

About TOPS:
Musicians David Carriere, Jane Penny, Marta Cikojevic, and Riley Fleck â write timeless music that reliably threads immediacy and depth. Bury the Key, their first full-length since 2020 and with new label home Ghostly International, is a captivating reintroduction for the MontrĂ©al band: ever refined, undoubtedly masters of their melodic craft yet unafraid of evolving and testing themselves against different, at times darker tones. The album faces feelings once locked away, engaging the give-and-take between happiness, hedonism, and self-destruction. While often inhabited by fictional figures, their glowing, grooving, self-produced songs draw from personal observations: intimacy (both inside and outside the band), toxic behavior, drug use, and apocalyptic dread. When recording started, they noticed a shift and leaned in, jokingly dubbed âevil TOPS,â says Penny. âWeâre always kind of seen as a soft band or like naive or friendly in a Canadian way, but we made it a challenge to really channel the world around us.â Through the lens of a looming epoch and the clarity that comes with age, TOPS dip into a more sinister disco realm with Bury the Key, giving their soft-focus sophisti-pop a sharpened edge.

Fred Cole's Birthday Celebration
The Crystal Ballroom is honored to play host to another birthday celebration for the late great Fred Cole of legendary garage-rock trio Dead Moon. He and wife (âkickass garage bass playerâ) Toody influenced an entire generation of Pacific NW musicians. Fred was â as The New York Times noted in his obituary, âa cult hero of the Pacific Northwest music scene as the leader of the long-running garage-rock band Dead Moon⊠playing a rough and raw sound that long predated grungeâs noisy take on punk.â Toody Cole anchors the night along with Los Hackals and The Reverberations.
Last yearâs celebration of Fred was so much fun that we decided to do it again! Join us as we toast the memory of one of Portland's late great rock icons!
