April is John Water's 80th birthday month. There are a few things going on in PDX to celebrate.  He'll be in town with his Aladdin Theater Performance on 4/13. And the Clinton Street Theater is screening Pink Flamingos on 4/17!

It seemed only fitting for DJ Action Slacks to dust off her John Waters-adjacent records for the occasion.  So on 4/17 you can pop across the street from the Clinton Street Theater and grab a fruity drink at Dots while she's spinning tunes from John Waters films and some that sound like they could have been in Waters films!

After four John Waters-themed events, this is kind of a DJ Action Slacks specialty, so if you're into this stuff, drop on by!

Oh my GROOVEness!  I'm really looking forward to this party!

What better way to unwind & lift our spirits than a night of music from the GREATEST era of dance grooves?! Dance to Rarities & Familiar Favorites from the likes of Stevie Wonder, The Three Degrees, Joe Bataan, Cream, The Staple Singers and many others from a variety of genres.

I suppose every DJ has a different idea for what The Golden Age of the Groove would be. As far as DJ Action Slacks is concerned, the years 1968-1974 produced the greatest percentage of infectious records that not only made people dance, they made them think.

The Golden Age of the Groove is when music incorporated one, some, or all of the following characteristics:
Funky
Fuzzy
Buzzy
Trippy
Blippy
Soul-enchanting
Conscious-Expanding
Kaleidoscopic
Psychotropic
Hypnotic - these records grab your attention & won't let go!

So put on your party threads and meet me on the dance floor to escape into the groove!

No Requests: Ladies First (5th Sunday Special Edition)
Presented by KlyphWorks & DSTRCT9

Sunday, March 29 • 6:00–9:00 PM
White Eagle Saloon • Free • All Ages

No Requests returns for a special 5th Sunday edition with Ladies First—a celebration of women in Hip Hop.

DJ Klyph and DJ Ambush deliver a curated, all-vinyl style experience highlighting female emcees across eras—from foundational voices to contemporary artists—blending classic cuts, underground gems, and modern releases.

Known for its intentional format—2 DJs, 4 decks, no requests—the night centers the music, the culture, and the shared experience on the dance floor.

No Requests typically takes place on the 4th Sunday of each month, but this March edition lands on a 5th Sunday.

Free and open to all ages.

It's DJ Action Slacks's annual Women's History Month dance party reminding everyone that women actually DO matter (at least to most of us).

We'll celebrate women who made it through the gauntlet, past the gatekeepers long enough to make their voices heard. Whether they released dozens of records or just one, these women created the musical document of our experiences, thoughts, & feelings during the mid-20th Century.

Let's celebrate our endurance, perseverance, talents, creativity, humanity, and rebelliousness! Join me at the Kenton Club to dance to a variety of music made by women - Familiar faves & rarities: Soul, Rock n Roll, Country, R&B, Latin, Pop, Camp, & more!

"Respected LadyLand" alludes to a place where I think so many women would love to exist. It's a land where we're seen and believed, valued, treated with respect, compensated fairly without exploitation, free from intimidation or harassment, with autonomy over our bodies and minds. Maybe if we envision such a place perhaps more of us will feel compelled to mobilize to fight for it. Collective determination, focus, tenaciousness, persistence, ingenuity, bravery, and comradery are key.  Community bonding can begin on the dance floor.  I hope to see you there!

Dress up in clothing inspired by the era, and dance like there's no tomorrow at this Pre-Valentine's soiree! Bring your valentine or maybe meet a new valentine on the dance floor!

Your host DJ Action Slacks will spin 45 rpm records from the Atomic Age: R&B, early rock n roll, soul, garage rock, rockabilly, girl groups, and pop records from the 1950s & 1960s. Familiar favorites with fun rarities!

Have an ATOMIC BLAST on the dance floor!
In these tumultuous times, it might be a good idea to take inspiration from the people of mid-century America - The Original Atomic Age.

How did they deal with their feelings? Mostly they danced about it. They danced, and danced, and danced and danced. They invented so many whimsical dance steps until they had danced the worry right out of them!

So won't you please set aside your cares for a night, and join me for an Atomic Age-"Oldies" Dance Party.

Admission - Sliding Scale $10-$20

December's Flame is Peppermint Twist
A swingin' affair you shouldn't miss
Adorn yourself in holiday cheers
And dance amongst the glitzy queers

It's been many MANY years since we first kicked off the Portland holiday season with my Peppermint Twist Holiday Dance Party.  This was long before so many of the complex modern/retro challenges we're grappling with today.

I thought it might be nice to roll things back for one night to try to remember what JOY and community connection felt like back then (as well as today).

So we gather once again in love, joy, & appreciation of the diversity of our LGBTQ family INCLUDING our allies.

Join your host DJ Action Slacks jingle her way through vintage 1960s vinyl: soul, Motown, oldies, Northern Soul, pop, Latin, garage rock & holiday delights. Rarities & some familiar favorites!

And PRIZES for some lucky guests who display the most seasonal spirit!

Admission: $15
