Call of the Wild - A Camp-Inspired Celebration to Benefit Oregon Wild
Call of the Wild is an event like no other to benefit the work of Oregon Wild, our state’s premier conservation group for over 40 years. This event features casual flannel instead of black ties, campfire circles instead of white tablecloths, and custom local bites galore instead of pre-selected entrees. Guests will enjoy live and silent auctions (stay tuned for a full list of auction items), local food and drink, live music, and more. Be part of the celebration by purchasing your advance ticket. We hope you’ll join us!
Check back frequently for more details on all the silent auction packages, or follow Call of the Wild 2016 on Facebook to stay tuned as we release more details and auction prizes!
Advance tickets are just $50 (the price goes up to $60 at the door so get yours now!)
A camp-inspired night of festivities, Call of the Wild is a chance to see stunning photography from our 12th annual Outdoor Photo Contest, mingle with wilderness and wildlife lovers from across the state, and celebrate everything you love about Oregon. This year’s benefit will feature:
- The unveiling of the winning photographs from our 12th annual Outdoor Photo Contest;
- A live and silent auction featuring framed prints of the Photo Contest finalists, rafting and adventure trips, outdoor gear and apparel, packages for hikers, photographers, climbers, fishing enthusiasts, kayakers, beer lovers, foodies, and more;
- Tasty local food, local wine, and beer from Oregon Brewshed® Alliance partners;
- Wild-crafted cocktails by Merit Badge featuring local spirits;
- Live music from Northwest artists courtesy of Marmoset Music; and
- Our very own trail mix bar, sponsored by Trailhead Credit Union
What's a camp-inspired party without a few tents?!
Consider becoming a Tent Sponsor ($500 for 10 tickets) and you and your guests will receive special perks at the party. Since this isn’t a sit-down dinner event, you won’t be assigned a table, but your group can gather around one of the campfire circles. As a Tent Sponsor, you will be recognized at the event and your guests will receive complimentary camp mugs for the signature wild-crafted cocktail. Sign up for your Tent Sponsorship here.

TOBACCO
the Second Zombie Beatle there to eff up all his prettier inclinations. Like how the sticky coast and thump of "Dimensional Hum" keeps getting derailed by what sounds like a fritzy radio dial, and the stonery dub of "Fantasy Trash Wave" bends and snaps over its slippery breakbeats. "An album of linear songs is just boring at this point," says TOBACCO, and he makes extra good on his promise to innovate ever more crudely with Sweatbox Dynasty's closer. At over six minutes, "Let's Get Worn Away" first plays like eleven more songs spliced together at unpredictable intervals—jock jams collide against rap bumps, synthesizer ether, and shadowy electro-pop. But on repeated listens, madness clearly becomes method, as our anti-hero lulls us into a state of intense, earned peace. This time when he stops, he's got closure, and we're the ones left with an undeniable urge to dig our hands back into that aural gunk once again. Tracklist 01. Human Om 02. Hong 03. Wipeth Out 04. Odonis Odonis' latest epic, Post Plague, delivers an unforgettable blend of industrial, electronic and science fiction. OO's post-apocalyptic anthems construct stark soundscapes and saturate them with layer upon layer of industrial grime. They do this with an enhanced sense of melody and willingness to push the boundaries of traditional pop structure.
Dean Tzenos' vocals sit clear and upfront, delivered with a foreboding intensity that matches each song's dystopian reality. Denholm Whale's bass lays demolition charges nimbly sidestepped by Jarod Gibson's futurist rhythms.
On Post Plague, Odonis Odonis delivers a hypnotic pulse that leaves a lasting impression. Post Plague forces us to realize what we are – vulnerable, frantic creatures yearning for authenticity.

Nick Jaina will celebrate the release of his newest Fluff & Gravy Records album Brutal Lives with a full-band performance.
Brutal Lives (Fluff and Gravy Records, Sept 2016) is easily Nick Jaina’s most daring album to date. And that is saying a lot when you consider that Nick has made a career out of re-inventing himself. The 14-track album primarily features work that he originally composed for a contemporary dance piece in the summer of 2014. Though the songs were not used, Nick thought the recordings had some value in them, so he refashioned them, adding vocals, choruses and ambient sounds to give them new life.
Stylistically, the album jumps from the indie-pop standout “Make A Life”, to the haunting “Co-Creators”, to the jarring “Saw You On The Train Last Night”. And I swear, “Fell Too Much In Love” would be right at home in a John Hughes film. Due to the unusual provenance of the recordings, almost every instrument was played and recorded by Nick himself. He gave the collection of songs the title that he proposed for the original dance piece, which was also rejected: Vies Brutales, or Brutal Lives.
This is Nick's second release on Fluff & Gravy Records, a follow-up to 2013's Primary Perception. It will be available digitally on September 16, and coupled with a limited-edition printing of an essay that Nick wrote for people who are new to dance, How To Enjoy Dance. 150 copies of the essay will be released in October.
The single, "Make A Life" is now approved for sharing and is downloadable, while the full album will be made available on September 16.

PataPDX is pleased to announce INTER/MISSION, a two person exhibition with installation work from Los Angeles-based artist Allison Peck, and videos from Washington D.C.-based artist Rives Wiley. This exhibition was curated by S/PLI/T, a Portland-based curatorial group co-directed by Sam Hopple and Taryn Wiens.
Exhbition Dates: October 6–November 3, 2016
Gallery Hours: Saturdays, 12–4pm and by appointment
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Rives Wiley (riveswiley.com) makes videos of figures positioned in elaborate built environments that blend the real, surreal,and virtual. Their behaviors walk an uncomfortable line between restraint and repetitive action that recalls the pull and push of social conventions on ourselves.
Allison Peck (allisonpeck.com) intervenes in individual sites, adeptly using languages of material, shape, and color to break down any pretense of a gallery as place-less, as a way to explore notions of space and our positions within it. For this exhibition she will install site-specific work in conversation with the space, the curators, and fellow artist Wiley.
Both Wiley and Peck work with ideas of environment: Wiley creates fictive environments to mirror the influence of our own social and virtual settings, while Peck forces us to confront the immediate environment of the gallery space. Each artist points to our agency, or lack thereof, in the ever- present context of our surroundings.

ABOUT THE CURATORS
S/PLI/T produces two-person exhibitions in established and alternative art venues and vacant spaces. By introducing emerging artists with conceptual depth and contemporary concerns to new viewers, S/PLI/T encourages artistic practice at a critical stage while inviting the community to connect around fresh and vital work. S/PLI/T encourages accessibility and cross-disciplinary engagement through interpretive materials, interviews, public events, and a published catalog.
The name S/PLI/T describes a duality that is present in the two-person exhibitions and implies two pieces of a whole. We are interested in the dialogue that can take place in the space(split) between different art practices.
S/PLI/T is co-directed by Sam Hopple and Taryn Wiens and is based in Portland, Oregon.

KING
In 2011 KING Independently released their first EP to much acclaim; title track "The Story", "Supernatural", and "Hey" make up the 3-piece introduction to their carefully crafted dream-soul sound. Hours after the release, their EP had traveled far to music lovers and tastemakers alike, making new fans of many.
KING's eclectic sound is relatable yet not simply defined. Though they play with the boundaries of their many influences, throughout each song is the common thread of a certain soulful authenticity. The smooth vibe, intricate production, and harmonic style of their music evolved beautifully in their home studio, a product solely of the three women and a result of their Minneapolis and Los Angeles roots.
Paris produces KING's songs, while Amber and Anita are the primary singers. The three work together on songwriting and arrangements to create their unique sound, garnering such accolades as NPR's Song of the Day and 10 Songs Public Radio Can't Stop Playing, Billboard's 10 Best R&B Songs of 2014, The Guardian's New Band of the Day and Best Albums of 2013, Metro UK's Singles of the Week, and the 55th GRAMMY Award for 'Move Love', their collaboration with Robert Glasper on his Best R&B Album 'Black Radio'. KING have completed their long-awaited debut album and are excited to invite listeners further into their sonic kingdom; listen to their conversation on NPR's All Things Considered about their music-making process for the upcoming record, scheduled to be released February 5, 2016 on their independent label, KING Creative.

THE DEDEKIND CUT // Ninja Tune, NON
Lee Bannon made a name for himself producing beats for underground hip-hop MCs like Joey Bada$$ and Smoke DZA, but after signing to Ninja Tune and releasing two albums that all but abandoned hip-hop in favor of experimental jungle and ambient music, he stopped making music under his own name and began using the alias Dedekind Cut. The work created under his updated moniker is dark, volatile, jarring, and unpredictable, recalling the frenzied breakcore of Venetian Snares, the haunted U.K. garage of Burial, and elements of gabber/hardstyle, grime, ambient, and mutated Southern rap. Dedekind Cut's first release was the self-issued tHot eNhançeR EP in September of 2015. In early 2016, Dedekind Cut and Rabit joined forces on a blistering one-sided 12" EP on Ninja Tune titled R&D. A self-issued single named "Last" appeared shortly after, and a Black History Month-themed mix titled BHM/N3D was released by NON WORLDWIDE. In March, an ambient drone tape American Zen was issued by Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions.

Organic Encounters
2015–2016 Papermaking Residency Exhibition
Organic Encounters presents work from the 2015–2016 c3:initiative and Pulp & Deckle Papermaking Residency artists Ellen George, Laura Foster, Tyler Peterson, and Ryan Woodring. Culminating from their experiences in the Pulp & Deckle studio, each artist utilized handmade paper as a medium to create new works that present ideas central to their art practice.
Organic Encounters considers the transformation of material to propel the medium of paper beyond its familiar use as a substrate. The process of papermaking is one of both strategic intent and material intuition. With no rigidity in process but an inventive appreciation for materialist ideals, Organic Encounters brings together disparate works that are sculptural in form but conceptual in methodology. The results present themselves as commentary on the natural world, the unstable value of objects, the mutability of biological forms, and notions of memory that are dually fluid and tangible.
Under the tutelage of Pulp & Deckle, the artists experimented with a variety of woodfree materials (including abaca, cotton rag, natural dyes, and locally sourced plants and vegetables) to create bodies of work concerned with paper's pliable nature and capacity for layering.
An artists' walkthrough is to follow on October 26th.
A performance
To pursue an acting career as a soap opera star as James Ferraro ® Simulacra Company was the ultimate 21st century dream for James Ferraro, a dream that was forged on a note pad under the cyber skies of Manhattan's slick midtown metropolis to become a world-famous hyperized living puppet of our Postmodern civilization, acquiring the world's media stage as a canvas, in the form of a glossy pure entertainment pop machine.
The approach to assembling his acting style was to be a theoretical expedition through the virtual landscape of Tabloid Cultoure, The Linguistic Consequence of Modern Decadence and Digital/Mega Entertainment Age Sexuality Persona … to name just a few sources of inspiration, and of course for it all to be captured on the flawless $1,000,000 TV cameras of the entertainment industries' major studio networks.
But where to assimilate to the aforementioned theories:
"My ideas from New York had flowered in the most violently magical way, as I entered what we Hollywoodologists call 'The Floor' (HOLLYWOOD GROUND ZERO) . . . and this led to outlets beyond my wildest imagination, seeing beyond the institutional buildings of the worlds Entertainment Center," says Ferraro.
JF continues: "Whilst wine tasting in Napa valley with my mother, on a tour through Simulacra's wine country . . . in the red convertible PT Cruiser and watching a giant Hollywood Blockbuster intermittently on the on-board DVD screen between wineries, I was so excited and inspired by the leading actors performance that I decided to leave the world of acting to focus more dramatically on a venture to be a recording artist."
"I became completely obsessed with Bach's Concerto for Oboe and Violin in C minor. As it blasted from the speakers of the PT Cruiser, spilling out into the open air, I indulged in an ecstatic delirium that was colored by a sweet subtle victorious madness, ideas flooded my mind, blood coursed through my veins, Smart Water™ oxidized my brain . . . thoughts of Napoleon at the Olive Garden, Julius Cesar reading poetry to me . . . I started to fully investigate these two artistic individuals almost exclusively at this moment, scanning what historic memory I had available in my brain. When I arrived home I ran into my humble chamber and got to work."
Ferraro has since released countless musical recordings on various record labels hailing from The U.S.A., The United Kingdom, Japan, Europe and beyond. A critically acclaimed artist of the 21st Century POP ART wave, the man with the moon-lit pompadour now teams up with Hippos in Tanks to create the next chapter in his on-going sonic adventure, in which, Ferraro explains, "The results of this relationship will see a new era in Art History."
