Jimi Hendrix was the critical component he needed to elevate the three day festival to a major cultural event. ELECTRIC CHURCH features interviews with Hendrix’s Experience band mates Billy Cox and the late Mitch Mitchell as well as Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Rich Robinson, Kirk Hammett, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi , and many others. MISSISSIPPI STUDIOS AND XRAY.FM PRESENT THE PSYCHEDELIC & INTERGALACTIC SOUL/R&B/HIP-HOP COLLECTIVE
Tribe Mars is an emerging an intergalactic soul R&B/hip-hop act based in Portland, OR. Keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, three different vocalists, trumpet and saxophone create this bands’ fresh yet slightly nostalgic sound. The culmination of diverse musical backgrounds of all the members has resulted in a unique, raw, old school meets new school, West coast meets East coast vibe that’ll be sure to have you groovin’.
Willamette Week's Best New Band Poll of 2018 described the Tribe's sound as "An alternate timeline where the Roots spurn Jimmy Fallon to become the house band at the Goodfoot." And, 2018 is set to be a big year for Tribe Mars as they prepare to release their debut, self-titled album this summer.

THE DUO OF CAMERA OBSCURA'S TRACYANNE CAMPBELL AND CRYBABY'S DANNY COUGHLAN, WITH NEW LP ON MERGE.
Tracyanne & Danny is a new collaborative project between singer-songwriters Tracyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura) and Danny Coughlan (Crybaby).
Tracyanne hails from Glasgow, Scotland. London-born Danny is based in Bristol, England.
Their paths first crossed in 2013 when introduced by mutual music industry pals. Tracyanne dug Danny’s Crybaby album (released on Helium Records) and invited him to open some Camera Obscura shows in the UK.
Mutual artistic respect led to the swapping of song ideas, but tentative plans to work together were set aside while Camera Obscura wrote, recorded, released, and promoted their fifth album Desire Lines.
Portland's own Woolen Men and Honey Bucket team up with international touring band Les Stratocaters from France for a night of garage, pop, and indie rock fun.
Show details and tickets available at Turn Turn Turn.
In recent years, journalists in the United States have been assaulted, bombed, and murdered. Others have had their phones, computers, and records seized by government agents. Online harassment has become a routine part of reporters’ jobs. The current administration has condemned journalists and called for the creation of a state-run television network. Can journalism organizations remain neutral when faced by this type of opposition? What are the primary responsibilities of the free press? To inform the public, encourage civic engagement, advocate against injustice, champion undertold stories?
Join us January 23, 2019 at the Alberta Rose Theatre for a conversation on the state of journalism, democracy, and justice with three Pulitzer Prize–finalist reporters: Inara Verzemnieks, Kimberly A.C. Wilson, and Les Zaitz.
Think & Drink takes place at the Alberta Rose Theatre, 3000 NE Alberta St., in Portland, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. We invite you to stay after the program for snacks and conversation. Minors are welcome when accompanied by an adult. General-admission tickets are $10 to $20. No-cost tickets are available.
