SubRosa is an experimental sludge-doom band from Salt Lake City, a city plagued by the tension of opposites, bleeding with churning counterculture, and a fertile breeding ground for modern pioneers.

EIGHT BELLS was formed in 2010 by Melynda Jackson and is a songwriting collaboration with bassist Haley Westeiner and drummer Chris VanHuffel. Based in Portland, Oregon, Eight Bells explores dark sonic realms with a blackened dissonance combining anguished screams with ethereal, haunting female vocals. Debut album, The Captain’s Daughter, was recorded by Billy Anderson and released in 2013 by Seventh Rule and on vinyl by The Flenser. In support of the album’s release, Eight Bells toured in support of Agalloch and SubRosa, appeared on the Fall Into Darkness festival and also performed at Project Pabst and Crucial Fest. Press for The Captain’s Daughter: Iron Hops “A+. ... a complex and genre-bending masterpiece.” Echoes and Dust "...head-bang inducing, ethereal and gloriously unpredictable.”

Steel for Brains “a damn near perfect concoction of black metal atmosphere with the spiraling aesthetic of progressive rock at its most unpredictable... an exercise in the experimental as each track moves forward with atomic precision.”

EIGHT BELLS’ sophomore album, Landless, is to be released in February 2016. This effort sees Eight Bells experience a change in personnel with drummer Rae Amitay, but once again join forces with legendary producer/engineer Billy Anderson. The material offers a definitive evolution of their sound, and will be released on vinyl/digital formats via Battleground Records and on tape via Tartarus Records. Eight Bells has also been chosen as direct support for Voivod and Vektor this February, where they will tour the Northeastern United States.

Jamais Jamais had their humble beginnings when Melynda flew in for a visit to Portland, OR from Portland, ME to visit sister, Erin. This time together in late 2010 included a week long recording session that resulted in two unreleased demo songs, Nothing and Winter Skies. They decided to call them selves Jamais Jamais (Jhah-may Jhah-may), meaning Never Never in French. To them their name chosen was a funny play on words. Its a double negative which equals a positive, like happy in a sad way and sad in a happy way, not unlike their music.

Melynda made a big move to Portland, OR a year later to see where the music with Erin could take them. After having a couple musician friends, Dave Smits and Alex Roy, play with them live and writing many songs, they joined forces with NW classically trained musicians Donna Potts and Camelia Nine. Two sisters from New England and two friends from the Pacific NW became Jamais Jamais as it is today. Their combined influences of folk, classical, soul, pop, doom and rock have played an integral part in the musical identity and unification of Jamais Jamais.

More about Russian Roulette and how it works: Each show begins with a full wheel of juicy story prompts. One of our 8 seasoned storytellers will be randomly drawn. To determine the random prompt for their story, they’ll spin the giant game show wheel. They can play or pass. If they pass another teller can steal their prompt. Then the risky part… each storyteller has only 5 minutes to come up with a true 5-minute story based on that prompt! It’s like we invented a new game called truth and dare.

At the end of the night, the audience will select a winner who will receive 50 bucks and some other cool prizes, like bragging rights for life. The winner will be invited to come back to the next show!

And one lucky audience member will also win prizes.

* Storytellers subject to change without notice

* Stories will quite likely contain explicit language and/or subject matter

Sonic Cinema presents Jim Jarmusch’s new film that chronicles the story of The Stooges, one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Emerging from Ann Arbor Michigan amidst a countercultural revolution, The Stooges’ powerful and aggressive style blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, the band planted the seeds for what would be called punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed. Gimme Danger presents the context of the Stooges emergence musically, culturally, politically, historically, and relates their adventures and misadventures while charting their inspirations and the reasons behind their initial commercial challenges, as well as their long-lasting legacy.

Tony Conrad is one the great American artists of our time, yet to the world at large he remains criminally under appreciated.  Since the early 1960s, Conrad’s films and compositions have been the stuff of legend for artists and musicians everywhere. His vast, inter-disciplinary repertoire has single-handedly created and influenced major film and compositional movements.  He performed in and recorded the soundtrack to Jack Smith’s legendary Flaming Creatures; he turned the paradigms of cinema upside down with The Flicker, a film composed of only black and white frames; his development and practice of Just Intonation and Minimalism through his work with Stockhausen and La Monte Young still has the music establishment scratching their heads; his pivotal role in the formation of The Velvet Underground has directly or indirectly influenced everyone who has picked up a guitar since; as an early adopter of activist public access television he democratized the emerging medium of portable video.  In his later years he has continued to perform and make work that pushes the boundaries of reason for which he has finally begun to receive worldwide attention.

Utilizing intimate footage of Tony and his collaborators shot over the last twenty-two years, as well as his own archive of recordings and films, Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present mirrors Conrad’s own playfully radical approach to art making. The non-linear structure Conrad to wildly free associate his streams of consciousness, revealing an honest and humane way of navigating a remarkable, creative life.

Following on from last year’s deluxe reissue of Partisan Records’ very first release, Decline of The West, Emil Amos is back for his 13th record as Holy Sons. Also a member of seminal west coast experimental rockers Om and Grails, Amos has has teamed up with the perfect producer, John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile, Phosphorescent, Sonic Youth), to steer the ship toward a purity of sound and vision that has eluded him in the past.

In Emil’s own words:
“In The Garden is essentially John Agnello and I out at Water Music in Hoboken, New Jersey carving out the sound of a classic 70’s record if it had been made by a band with all its players being very focused in the hey-day of their career… but we ‘faked’ that vibe using one player. That’s basically what I learned 4-tracking in the 90’s… how to replicate live-sounding recordings where a band is reacting and playing off of each other in real-time.”

“This album was originally aesthetically based on the joy of pulling out old 70’s American & British songwriting LPs at night while you’re pounding whiskeys by the fireplace. The way those albums look and feel like a lost pillar of classicism. The drums are so round and close they sound like you could eat them …and there’s that feeling of pure pleasure you get from hearing guitar solos that were done in one take and slightly flawed vocal harmonies recorded on the fly before Pro Tools existed. It came from a lust after that time when mixes and the relationship between all the instruments breathed beautifully at the height of analog equipment.”

In The Garden is Holy Sons in its most potent, crystalline form. It is Amos’ statement album thus far, his flawless song cycle. Once it sees the light of day, it seems an impossibility that he will continue to have the luxury of hanging out on the fringe.

Nurses is Aaron Chapman and John Bowers. They split their time between Portland and Astoria, OR, and Los Angeles.

Blesst Chest is a trio playing instrumental, ‘70s-style prog rock. This band has enough heaviosity and groove to balance the asymmetrical bits.

The music is rich and inventive, with the bass and guitar frequently playing synchronized melodic lines.

Sun Angle can be interpreted as tropical psych phase punk. Diamond Junk – the debut full-length from Sun Angle –creates, as the title suggests, exhilarating tension between beauty and chaos, propelled by artful, animalistic urgency.

Known and loved for their irreverent, expressive, spontaneous live shows—full of aggressive elation and gritty, raucous, surreal layers of sound—the Portland trio channels that same epic, improvisational energy into their debut album. Produced by Danny Seim (Menomena), Diamond Junk was recorded in a brief blip of space-time in a cabin lurking in the depths of Zigzag, Oregon—musical immersion marked by the creative abandon of all-night psychotropic inspiration and oblique strategies.

The synergistic three-piece consists of Charlie Salas Humara on vocals & guitar (Panther), Marius Libman on bass (Copy) and Papi Fimbres on drums (Paper/Upper/Cuts). Central and South American footsteps traverse through Sun Angle's veins, blending SST punk, Cumbia, and pop in a wash of psychedelic filth. Sun Angle ride the line between chaos and pop, making music all its own.

Tender Age "The combo of Tauna Leonardo, Bryan Robertson, Elaina Tardif, Nick Ferrucci and Christopher Klarer has generated a swirling-buzz based on their near-psychedelic sonics, determined live shows and DIY spirit. Coupling the release of a previous 7" single on a local indie-upstart and West Coast jaunts landing them on radio sessions for esteemed tastemaker Michael Stock's acclaimed Part Time Punks, the band is now poised for a wider breakthrough in the form of their newest double A-side single for SINIS Recordings."

Heavy Duty By Josiah Hughes/Exclaim Magazine (Canada) Portland's Mattress centres on the claustrophobic bedroom soul of weirdo Rex Marshall and his synthesiser. But on Heavy Duty, his debut full-length for Edmonton's Reluctant Recordings, his minimal, dark electro beats take a backseat to his sinister songwriting. Opener "Pollution" sets the tone with its eerie sounds and hopeless lyrics, while "Go Ahead and Litter" almost gets dance-y, with its dead funk guitar drone. The real gem is closing track "Bring It Down," with its heavy synths and melodic singing, showing a little heart amidst the creepiness. Limited to 300 and featuring shiny artwork courtesy of the Doers' Sean Maxey, this is a rare treat in outsider pop.

Andy Shauf is a storyteller, a singer of heartbreak and regrets, isolation and loneliness, reflecting his prairie surroundings in Regina, Canada. Meticulously written over four years, Shauf's The Bearer of Bad News is a warm and welcoming album, bathed in weathered piano, dampened drums, softly-strummed guitars and clarinet, which lends its unique timbre to frequently brighten – or hauntingly underscore – the songs' darker undercurrents. Fans of Elliott Smith, Nick Drake and Harry Nilsson, take note.

Scattered Clouds is a dark, experimental, post apocalyptic rock group, from Hull, QC. Since the project's inception in 2010 and the release of a self-titled EP on Hull based label E-Tron Records (www.etronrecords.com), Scattered Clouds has evolved from a solo home studio project to a performance act that creates a trance-inducing, orchestral and intense cinematic experience. Blending harsh yet controlled sounds, brooding rhythms, processed vocals, and unsettling analog synthesizer sounds with a strong sense of form and dynamics, Scattered Clouds' music can be described as industrial, dark-wave, post-rock and avant-pop. The First Empire is the group's first full-length release and was released on E-Tron Records April 21, 2015. Scattered Clouds is a three-piece band consisting of vocalist and bassist Philippe Charbonneau, keyboardist Mike Dubue and drummer Jamie Kronick.

Twin Peaks

When 19-year-old Chicagoans Cadien Lake James, Clay Frankel, Connor Brodner, and Jack Dolan finished high school a year ago, they were under the impression that things had to change. They were expected to go to college, and more importantly, had to deal with the reality of breaking up their band, Twin Peaks, which had just started to get some notice. Three of them committed to Evergreen State College in Olympia with the idea of keeping some semblance of the band together, but it was clear that there was a magic the four of them had. All this happened BEFORE a pivotal self-booked, three-week tour in the summer of '12. They had just recorded their debut album, Sunken, in Cadien's basement, hit the road in earnest, and everywhere they went, one thing remained the same. After seeing the energy, power, and exuberance of their live show, people in every town and members of every band they played with urged them to see this thing through. However, real life is rarely so kind or easy. Deposits were paid, dorm rooms reserved, promises made. Cadien, Connor, and Jack were headed north to Olympia.

It's a funny thing how clarity and circumstance can set and reset the table. After one semester at Evergreen, peoples' compliments still ringing in their ears, the self-described "industrious dudes" decided to quit school and give Twin Peaks a fair shake. They returned to Chicago in December, reunited with Clay, and geared up for their SXSW debut. Esquire even gave them a nod as an "Artist to Watch" at SXSW, calling them "A bunch of dirty, precocious underage kids raised on a steady diet of Jay Reatard and their parents' records...Twin Peaks deploy sugary pop hooks with the infectious enthusiasm of a high school punk band." The guys moved back in with their folks, looked into part-time jobs, and began planning the re-write of the first, post-high school chapter of their lives. The feeling was palpable: Things were about to take off.

So here we stand, ready to offer Twin Peaks to the wider world. A record full of the youthful excitement, sure to elicit "oh yeahs," and if you're not a total square, some body movin'. Sunken is out July 9th on Autumn Tone.

White Reaper

Like everything White Reaper does, the band's trajectory from regional act renowned for its high-intensity shows to national touring group was accomplished at the speed of 0 to 60.

We went all over the country and grew our hair out a little bit,͟ says guitarist/singer Tony Esposito about the past year spent on the road with the likes of Deerhoof,Young Widows, Priests, and more.

After signing to Polyvinyl in early 2014 and releasing a self-titled EP that blasts through six tracks in a breakneck 15 minutes, the Reapers — Esposito, keyboardist Ryan Hater, bassist Sam Wilkerson, and drummer Nick Wilkerson — soon began working on new material to fill out their set.

Enter White Reaper Does It Again: a raucous debut full-length from a bunch of barely 20-somethings who have more fun on a Tuesday night than you do on a Saturday.

Recorded in White Reaper's hometown of Louisville, KY, with engineer Kevin Ratterman (Young Widows, Coliseum),WRDIA is a pure rock 'n' roll adrenaline shot: vicious guitar scratches, elastic bass, sugary keyboard leads, and a thudding drums that will inevitably give your heartbeat a new rhythm.

Modern Vices

Self-proclaimed dirty doo-wop, Modern Vices are Alex, Peter, Thomas, Patrick, and Miles. They hail from Chicago. Noir in tone, their sound resides somewhere between late '50s croon and wet garage rock snarl. Their self-recorded, eponymous, LP drops in October via Los Angeles' Autumn Tone Records. A romantic revolution.
