Show your river some love and join us for our 3rd annual Valentine’s Dip - this year on a Saturday! Feb. 15, 2020 at 11:00am!
FREE! AND ALL PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE TWO FREE ADMISSIONS TO TBFX!
Meet us at Willamette Park on the west side of the river. Look for our tents. REGISTRATION starts at 10am!
We’ll be celebrating 180 days (six months) straight without a CSO (Combined Sewer Overflow) in the Willamette River. All participants will receive TWO FREE ADMISSIONS to the 10th anniversary of The Big Float, TBF X (Saturday July 11th), plus coffee and treats! Over 100 people are anticipated for this years splash!
Why are we jumping into the 44 degree river in the middle of winter? Because it’s there! With supervision, it’s safe for dipping. And we want to bring attention to the improvement of Willamette River water quality and the great success of the Big Pipe and the city’s green infrastructure – green street planters, ecoroofs, rain gardens and more - that keep our river clean and ensure that overflows are exceedingly rare.
What difference has the City of Portland’s Big Pipe project made? Before completion in 2011, overflows in the winter were a regular occurrence, occurring during most rainstorms. The Big Pipe project eliminated 94 percent of overflows. The Bureau of Environmental Services’ water quality testing consistently shows bacteria levels safe enough for swimming.
Still, there are people in Portland who believe EVERY time it rains, regardless of the amount, sewage flows into the Willamette River. Not true! HAP’s Valentine’s Dip brings attention to the FACT that in 2019 there was a total of one and in 2018 there was a total of two sewage overflows, an occurrence of about 0.4% of the year. It is now a statistical anomaly when it happens. HAP is not apologizing for sewage overflows - just helping present them in a reasonable context.
Ultimately, this is a fun way to bring attention to something positive in our community with the Portland’s river-loving community. We will likely even see some people dress up in costume!
“At 4,000 acres, the Willamette River is Portland’s second largest open space and natural area. The Willamette River is the heart of our city and our city’s blue space,” said Willie Levenson, Human Access Project’s Ringleader.
So pack a suit, some river shoes, and show some Valentine’s Day love for your river by taking a chilly dip!
The Human Access Project, known for its cultural transforming event and fundraiser The Big Float, is a nonprofit river advocacy group whose mission is to transform Portland’s relationship with the river that flows right through the heart of our city. Learn more about HAP at humanaccessproject.com
This is a fun way to bring attention to something positive in our community with your river-loving friends. Don’t be shy if you like to wear costumes!
Join us for the Valentine’s Day Dip when loving your river gives you goose bumps!

40+ bands, four venues, three days.
Rx Fest, a three day, multi-venue festival in the form of a large-scale benefit for organizations vital to our community, is on the eve of its second year February 14th, 15th and 16th 2020 all centrally located in downtown Portland at Star Theater, Dante's, Kelly's Olympian and Valentines. The second annual event benefits Outside In, Q Center, Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette and p:ear.
Not only is Rx Fest a means to raise money for those organizations but also another opportunity to provide a platform for community outreach and engagement where representatives from each nonprofit can speak directly to the public about their respective missions and services.
Through this one of the foundational cornerstones of the festival is apparent, to engage and assist the dialogue of health, both mental and physical, and wellness in our community by not only connecting individuals to the services available through the festival's selected nonprofit partners but also through one of the most healing environmental sources, live music and community.
We strive to make the fest as inclusive as possible and work with a number of individuals directly involved in our local music community to co-curate. This year we are beyond excited to work with Papi Fimbres / HomieFest, Slim Moon / Kill Rock Stars, NW Post Rock Collective, DeAngelo Raines and more.
We hope you'll join us as we continue to build slowly and get our feet wet (figuratively and likely literally) to kick off what we hope to be an event we'll all continue to look forward to with enthusiasm and excitement for the many February's to follow.
Be our Valentine! XORX

When "WE" Cry takes a look into the pain of a womanBlack Woman; and the perils that exist when these truths of pain remain silent. The black family was forced to endure, but our silence has been costly, as we are forced to succumb to the adversities of a new world order. For generations, the black family has struggled to survive, as we continue the fight to rise above racial boundaries. When others can see themselves through our lens, we ALL can see the strengths that exist among us; creating an enlightened sense of courage to pursue collective unity among womenregardless to color, culture or gender differences. When "WE" Cry seeks to bring about awareness, of the effects in our lives, when we as women, choose to ignore our struggles; as we often times rationalize and cover up the shame. When we become embarrassed, we keep "quiet" and cope
When "WE" Cry seeks to open those painful doors to a fresh freedom in knowing that our "silence will not protect us" (Audre Lorde). For every bout of pain unabated, there lies equal power; a strength that is unequivocally seen, heard and felt through generations of strength.

The Seattle-based trio of Dude York—Peter Richards on guitar and vocals, Claire England on bass and vocals, and Andrew Hall on drums—is announcing itself with an album that couches its themes of anxiety and eroding mental health in rock tracks that amp up the sweetly melodic crunch of powerpop with massive distortion and bashed-to-heck drums. Sincerely is a loud, sweaty rebuke to those moments in life when it seems like nothing’s working, a testament to the power of friendship, staring problems directly in the face, and finding solace in art. Sincerely is Dude York’s first release with Hardly Art.
