Eyelids say:

Hey everyone... if you are in Portland on Friday June 26th come on down to celebrate the release of our new 12" EP along with the mighty Phantom Ships and the always amazing power that be Wimps (they hail from Seattle). We're looking forward to playing some new songs and also some of those five month old "classics" as well... Hope to see you there!

“Scholars of sunshine pop” - Keith Cameron, Mojo

"A whirlwind of tangled acoustic and electric guitars that gets stuck in your head and continues to spin long after the tune is over" – NPR Heavy Rotation

Portland band Eyelids have a collective history creating music for some of the most legendary indie songwriters. Longtime friends and principle songwriters John Moen (Decemberists) and Chris Slusarenko (Guided by Voices, Boston Spaceships) channel their teenage Paisley Underground obsession and love of New Zealand / Flying Nun guitar buzz into a sound they describe as, “sweet melodies and bummer vibes.”

Immediately following sold-out pressings of three 7” and the 2014 full length 854, Eyelids will release a new self-titled EP on June 23 (Jealous Butcher / Schizophonic Records). Produced by Peter Buck, Eyelids will be available digitally and limited edition colored vinyl with a download card featuring three exclusive live videos (including Stephen Malkmus performing “Hey Joe” w/ Eyelids).

FOODWARS 8 annual music & comedy festival + food drive to benefit hungry children

Bring a can of food!

Join us as we showcase a collection of the best local musicians and comics
to raise non-perishable food items for children via ImpactNW and the SUN School program, which targets childhood hunger in the classroom.
Our annual event pits artists of varying disciplines against each other to see who’s fanbase can generate the most generous response to the very serious realities of childhood food insecurities.
The winner will be named 2015 King/Queen of the Hungry in a lavish ceremony.
This is our eighth year hosting this wonderful event and we are proud to say we have raised over 50,000 cans of food during that time.

“BURLESQUE ON MARS” COMBINES THE GLAM OF DAVID BOWIE WITH THE GLAMOUR OF THE MODERN

STRIPTEASE

The Infamous Nina Nightshade and Sophie Maltease are excited to announce "Burlesque on Mars," a tribute to the works of music and style legend, David Bowie. With a career that spans six decades, Bowie is arguably one of the most influential personae in modern pop culture. A master of reinvention and experimentation, his influence can be felt in not only music, but also film and fashion. His voice and personae ooze sexual confidence, and he helped create a new brand of theatricality with characters such as Ziggy Stardust and the Thin White Duke.

“Burlesque on Mars” will be an evening in tribute to that influence and reach. Headlined by Seattle's Iva Handfull and Ernie Von Schmaltz, this two-show extravaganza will also feature a variety of burlesque, bellydance, and singing performances by Portland and Seattle performers, including:

Baby Le'Strange

Scarlett O'Hairdye

Layne Fawkes

Nikki Lev

Sophie Maltease

Nina Nightshade

Bella Luna

Kit Katastrophic

Maggie McMuffin

and Bettie Velo

The evening will be emceed by Rebecca M Davis.

The Mercury says: "This year's Bridgetown Comedy Festival lineup was announced today, and it looks GOOD. Initial thoughts: This year's bill is absurdly crowded, and includes the wonderful Beth Stelling, Maggie Maye, and Kate Berlant, who were all so, so funny at 2014's All Jane No Dick. Plus Kurt Braunohler, Janeane Garafalo (!), Kyle Kinane, Baron Vaughn, JESSICA WILLIAMS, and Phoebe Robinson, and a whole slew of local (and once local) stand-ups you know and love, including Ian Karmel, Bri Pruett, Shane Torres, Nathan Brannon, and Amy Miller. And Caitlin Weierhauser, Curtis Cook, and Steve Wilber. And Sean Jordan and Veronica Heath and Anthony Lopez.

So I sure hope you didn't make plans yet for May 7-10, or if you did, that you can go ahead and cancel them. More info on the festival here.

And you can see the full list (yes, there are so many more people on it!), in one untidy, thrilling paragraph, after the jump:

Jonathan Katz, Andy Kindler, Janeane Garofalo, Dana Gould, Neil Hamburger, Jessica Williams, Kurt Braunohler, Karen Kilgariff, Matt Braunger, Brendon Small, Jackie Kashian, Tone Bell, Michelle Buteau, Kyle Kinane, Moshe Kasher, Michael Kosta, Kate Berlant, Ian Karmel, Beth Stelling, Baron Vaughn, Kira Soltanovich, Guy Branum, Dave Hill, Chris Fairbanks, Phoebe Robinson, Ron Lynch, Steve Agee, Jay Larson, Ryan Sickler, Jacqueline Novak, Joe Zimmerman, Matt McCarthy, Matt Peters, David Angelo, Gary Vider, Chad Daniels, Mike Vecchione, Curtis Cook, Drennon Davis, Allen Strickland Williams, Laura House, Arden Myrin, Matt Kirshen, Adam Cayton-Holland, Chris Garcia, Ben Roy, Lizzy Cooperman, Maggie Maye, Patrick Keane, DJ REAL (Nick Stargu), Andy Wood, Ben Bizuneh, Ian Abramson, Andrew Orvedahl, Jesse Case, Amber Preston, Greg Barris, Bri Pruett, Amy Miller, Andrew Sleighter, Bryan Cook, Clare O'Kane, Derek Sheen, Ashley Barnhill, Paul Hooper, Dulce' Sloan, Barbara Gray, Steven Wilber, Jak Knight, Caitlin Gill, Doogie Horner, Josh Johnson, Billy Prinsell, Langston Kerman, Kristin Rand, Nathan Brannon, Jerron Horton, Noah Gardenswartz, Ever Mainard, Gabe Dinger, Troy Walker, Jen Seaman, Lisa Best, Jason Van Glass, Maggie Faris, Anthony Lopez, Elicia Sanchez, Lucas O'Neil, Jessica Sele, Jeff Scheen, Adrian McNair, Jeffrey Jay, Joel Kim Booster, Anthony Calderon, Kevin Iso, Leah Kayajanian, Kevin Saucier, Ismael Loutfi, Matt Donaher, Ryan Conner, Shane Torres, Sean Jordan, Ralph Hardesty, Scout Durwood, Samaria Sam Jay Johnson, Rhea Butcher, Zak Toscani, Ray Marshall, Parker Postyeni, Mark james heath (Mjh), Matteo Lane, Veronica Heath, Mac Blake, Sonia Denis, Raj Sivaraman, Nore Davis, Rana May, Sean White, Paige Bowman, Matt Pharr, Bryan Yang, Rob Schultz, Mitch Mitchell, Caitlin Weierhauser, David Mascorro"

Milagro is thrilled to present the Portland premiere of American Night: The Ballad of Juan José. The wild odyssey of American Night: The Ballad of Juan José by the acclaimed Latino actor, writer and filmmaker  Richard Montoya, member of the comedy troupe Culture Clash, features a multi-talented and diverse cast of ten actors all under the visionary directing style of the award-wining Elizabeth Huffman (Oedipus el Rey, Mary Stuart), wrapping up Milagro’s 31st season of premieres.

History is made every day by all members of society, but not all it is recorded in the history books. In American Night: The Ballad of Juan José, Montoya successfully mixes diverse elements, events and public figures that have shaped American history to create a kaleidoscopic, moving tapestry of America’s journey. As a theatre company engaged in risk-taking and cultural awareness, Milagro's selection of this bold and relevant production was not only natural, but perfectly timely: recent social and political events have brought to light painful truths and uncomfortable conversations rooted in the history of the country, whether that history is true or not.

Commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2010 and acclaimed nationwide, American Night: The Ballad of Juan José follows a Mexican ex-policeman feverish preparing to take the U.S. naturalization test. When his passionturns to surreal obsession, he is confronted  face to face with historical figures from Lewis and Clark to Bob Dylan, and thrown into events from the Mexican-American war to Woodstock. Juan José goes far beyond memorizing flash card answers, asking himself the questions that challenge all of us to reconsider what it means to be an American.
