Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop~
Hosted by DJ Klyph (Welcome to the Neighborhood Sat 8-10pm on XRAY)
Music by DJ O.G. One (formerly of The Groove Theory Mix Show & In These Streetz on XRAY)
A Hip Hop showcase based in Portland Oregon, providing a platform for artist in an environment designed to help grow the culture. Mic Check began as the vision of emcee and promoter STARCHILE in 2016, and quickly grew into a monthly event where you could find some one the best emcees on the stage or in the audience. The original team of STAR (R.I.P.) as host, Trox as resident DJ, René Lopez and photographer and DJ Klyph behind the scene helping as curator built an event that continues to represent the culture in PDX.
In 2023, Mic Check PDX celebrates it's 7 year anniversary while also celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop. This event also kicks off Portland Hip Hop week!

Featuring XRAY's very own DJ Klyph of Welcome to the Neighborhood (Sat 8-10pm) and station alumni DJ OG One previously of In These Streetz & The Groove Theory Mix Show on XRAY, but best known for DJ-ing for the Portland Trailblazers.
About PDX Hip Hop Week: Portland Hip Hop Day was founded in 2015 to address concerns and conflicts between the city's Hip Hop scene and various agencies. The primary aim was to bring together divided communities through the platform of Hip Hop. The collaboration between the city and the Hip Hop community has led to successful annual events. In 2018, Hip Hop Day was extended to a week-long celebration from August 20th to August 26th. Our goal is to UNIFY, AMPLIFY, EDUCATE, & ELEVATE the Hip Hop culture.

- Wayward Girls Soul Club of The 'IN' Crowd Saturdays 2-3pm.
- Tom Humphrey of Backroad to Nowhere Sundays 6-7pm
- Morning Remorse of Meaningful Connections with Morning Remorse Thursdays 8-9pm
- Bobby D of Night School (formerly 6pm Fridays) and content partner The Albina Music Trust
You'll also find several other friends of the station and XRAY DJs as part of the festival, including as performers, MCs, and behind-the-scenes staff. Look out for:
- Dave Fulton of 12 Steps Beyond Prog Thursdays 12-2am, performing with his band Motrik
- Friends of Noise of Friends of Noise Presents Mondays 2-3pm, hosting performances of teen bands at 4pm each day of the fest in the family-focused Coyote Neighborhood
- Ross Beach of Alive with Pleasure Fridays 2-4pm as an MC

They're most known for playing just what you'd expect from a trip to the beach--sweet soul, lost highway, beach tracks, lowrider oldies, and all the vibes to transport you to a place where sand is between your toes.

DJ Kyle Reese of the VCR TV (Fridays 1-2 AM) takes the decks live at the newly opened Dream House Bar. He's most known on XRAY for video music, movie soundtracks, dark danse, and, in his own words "what John Carpenter listens to, late at night..."
