XRAY.FM PRESENTS:
Influential post-punk pioneers' 40th anniversary tour!
The Monochrome Set and The Prids at Doug Fir Lounge

THE MONOCHROME SET consist of, original Monochrome Set members, Bid (Guitar/Vocals) and Andy Warren (bass) with John Paul Moran (keyboards) and Mike Urban, who was previously in the band in the early 90s, on drums, The Monochrome Set formed in 1978, and were heavily influential in the ‘post-punk’ scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk. The band’s early releases were on the legendary Rough Trade Label before signing with Virgin offshoot Din Disc. They also released several albums on the Cherry Red label, making a notable appearance on that label's well known ‘Pillows and Prayers’ compilation. Though The Monochrome Set split in 1985 the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings, their album release count now being well into double figures. After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA, whilst also releasing five new, critically acclaimed, studio albums, the most recent, ‘Maisieworld’, on the German ‘Tapete’ label in February 2018. 2018 also sees the 40th year since the band formed and they will be gigging worldwide to celebrate this.

Bunk Bar
8:00pm Friday, February 22, 2019

XRAY is proud to present Team Human Live! Autonomous technologies, runaway markets and weaponized media have overturned civil society, paralyzing our ability to think constructively, connect meaningfully, or act purposefully. Being human is a team sport, and Douglas Rushkoff's Team Human Podcast and radio show has been the voice of human intervention in the machine.

Join the party, find the others, throw off the yoke of surveillance and manipulation and celebrate the quirky, anomalous behaviors and approaches that make real people so much more than robots, algorithms, or consumer profiles. This is where the conscious beats the automatic - an opportunity to redesign reality on our own terms.

Live, connected conversations, in real time and space, with real humans.

Playing for Team Human

Blaed Spence is a lifelong activist, warrior, and witch — a change-agent who’s worked extensively with Starhawk and the Reclaiming Collective in the U.S. and Canada; an alum of the Apple Multimedia Lab, founding partner of Wired Magazine, Senior Designer at Paul Allen’s Interval Research; and an operative of the rEvolution working to dismantle the patriarchy and predatory capitalism from within the belly of the beast.

Jennifer Rauch is the author of Slow Media: Why Slow is Satisfying, Sustainable, and Smart and a Professor of Journalism & Communication Studies at Long Island University Brooklyn. Her writing has been published in the Huffington Post, Medium, and Urban Audubon.

Hosted by

Douglas Rushkoff is a media theorist, documentarian, world-renowned public intellectual and author of Team Human - a fiery manifesto that argues that our society is threatened by a vast antihuman infrastructure that undermines our ability to connect. Named one of the world’s 10 most influential thinkers by MIT, he coined such concepts as "viral media,” “social currency,” and “digital natives.”

Ticket Information

General admission tickets are free to reserve but require an $8 cover paid to Bunk Bar on the day of the event.

Team Human patrons are granted complimentary access to this event with a Team Human supporter ticket.

MISSISSIPPI STUDIOS AND XRAY.FM PRESENT THE PSYCHEDELIC & INTERGALACTIC SOUL/R&B/HIP-HOP COLLECTIVE

Tribe Mars is an emerging an intergalactic soul R&B/hip-hop act based in Portland, OR. Keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, three different vocalists, trumpet and saxophone create this bands’ fresh yet slightly nostalgic sound. The culmination of diverse musical backgrounds of all the members has resulted in a unique, raw, old school meets new school, West coast meets East coast vibe that’ll be sure to have you groovin’.

Willamette Week's Best New Band Poll of 2018 described the Tribe's sound as "An alternate timeline where the Roots spurn Jimmy Fallon to become the house band at the Goodfoot." And, 2018 is set to be a big year for Tribe Mars as they prepare to release their debut, self-titled album this summer.

THE DUO OF CAMERA OBSCURA'S TRACYANNE CAMPBELL AND CRYBABY'S DANNY COUGHLAN, WITH NEW LP ON MERGE.

Tracyanne & Danny is a new collaborative project between singer-songwriters Tracyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura) and Danny Coughlan (Crybaby).

Tracyanne hails from Glasgow, Scotland. London-born Danny is based in Bristol, England.

Their paths first crossed in 2013 when introduced by mutual music industry pals. Tracyanne dug Danny’s Crybaby album (released on Helium Records) and invited him to open some Camera Obscura shows in the UK.

Mutual artistic respect led to the swapping of song ideas, but tentative plans to work together were set aside while Camera Obscura wrote, recorded, released, and promoted their fifth album Desire Lines.

Advance tickets and more information available here.

Alberta Rose Theatre

In recent years, journalists in the United States have been assaulted, bombed, and murdered. Others have had their phones, computers, and records seized by government agents. Online harassment has become a routine part of reporters’ jobs. The current administration has condemned journalists and called for the creation of a state-run television network. Can journalism organizations remain neutral when faced by this type of opposition? What are the primary responsibilities of the free press? To inform the public, encourage civic engagement, advocate against injustice, champion undertold stories?

Join us January 23, 2019 at the Alberta Rose Theatre for a conversation on the state of journalism, democracy, and justice with three Pulitzer Prize–finalist reporters: Inara VerzemnieksKimberly A.C. Wilson, and Les Zaitz

Think & Drink takes place at the Alberta Rose Theatre, 3000 NE Alberta St., in Portland, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. We invite you to stay after the program for snacks and conversation. Minors are welcome when accompanied by an adult. General-admission tickets are $10 to $20. No-cost tickets are available.
